    1. @redenchilada I have to outpost mushi. I want to beat Carcino before mushi does.

      1. @nerthos Wait wait, how many posts does mushi have?

      1. @redenchilada@rainbowdash.net ... and you're actually # top denter in the !fediverse - only @schestowitz has 10k dents more than you. #

        1. @erkanyilmaz Really? Does that only count folks who communicate remotely or something? Because I know of at least three users on here with more notices than me.

          1. C O O L - can you input their names at (1) ? we hope the denticator stats will come back. Currently - my guess - the top 20-30 are still old accounts from identica only :-( (2) (1) http://www.macno.org/denticator/ (2) http://oracle.skilledtests.com/conversation/126368#notice-344363

              1. I'm sure it doesn't get everyday the chance/duty to read 200k dents or so in one go ;-)

                1. I see now: " @mushi@rainbowdash.net (with 89k total dents, avg dent frequency (excluding days without posts) = 142.58) is locked since 2013-12-09 17:02:27 (GMT +0000). Please wait some minutes and retry " -> denticator needs to read 10k more dents of him cc @question

                  1. @erkanyilmaz ...Are you sure the identicator can handle all this at once? I'm sure it's smart enough to queue the loading of the notice backlogs as a background process, but the site does seem to go down for about half an hour per new account I load into it.

                Monday, 09-Dec-13 18:35:09 UTC from oracle.skilledtests.com
                1. @erkanyilmaz Likely because most people on this site don't know what federation is or how it works. :p

                  1. perhaps might have also been a good thing: because you bronies developped + conserved your '# thing'. Your SN instance is definitely #

                    Monday, 09-Dec-13 18:48:09 UTC from oracle.skilledtests.com
                    1. @erkanyilmaz Our community's definitely grown for the better around the inclusive nature of using the public timeline almost exclusively. Heck, I don't think I would've used this site for more than a week if it was run like a normal StatusNet instance.

Monday, 09-Dec-13 18:53:35 UTC from web
                      1. What does "using the public timeline " mean?

                        Monday, 09-Dec-13 19:23:39 UTC from indy.im
                        1. @boneidol Prbbly RDN users watch the local TL where everything on RDN happens, instead of everyone's own TL. So subbing is unimportant.

                          Monday, 09-Dec-13 20:27:09 UTC from quitter.se
                          1. @mcscx @boneidol That's pretty much what most of our userbase does, yeah. I've done some messing around with our branch of StatusNet to alleviate some of the drawbacks from that, such as making notices from remote users visible on Public (but only when the user browsing is subscribed to them, so that something that didn't necessarily follow our instance's ruleset wasn't exposed to the entire userbase).

Monday, 09-Dec-13 21:04:37 UTC from web
                        2. @boneidol it means that most of the users here, including myself, watch the stream of what every single person posts, very much like a chatroom.

Monday, 09-Dec-13 20:58:16 UTC from web
                      2. @redenchilada I find RDN much like a massive pretty chatroom. and that's exactly why I love it.

                          1. @redenchilada @techdisk What exactly is statusnet's purpose if not chatting?

Monday, 09-Dec-13 20:58:59 UTC from web
                            1. @redenchilada @techdisk oh yeah the public timeline isn't usually the main thing most instances use..

Monday, 09-Dec-13 20:59:55 UTC from web
                          2. @redenchilada oh shush. its a good analogy. maybe IRC with pictures and a website is better? either way everyone sees what everyone else posts.

Monday, 09-Dec-13 21:01:50 UTC from web
                            1. @techdisk It's in the connotations. Chatrooms are considered more instantaneous - that is to say, conversations have a finite lifetime, that's usually in the realm of hours, and posts have little permanence. StatusNet, in contrast, keeps a record of all posts forever, and conversations can easily be extended across days, or between people who are never on at the same time, which is something most chatrooms can't do.

What I'm trying to say is I take issue with the site being called a "chatroom" when calling it something like "open-ended social networking" better fits what the site's capable of.

                              1. @redenchilada I never said it was exactly the same, but I see what you mean.

Monday, 09-Dec-13 21:10:30 UTC from web
                                1. @techdisk My views on that are why I've avoided implementing features like "who's online" into the site. And also my primary motivation for upgrading to 1.x (for the different post types centered on having a longer shelf life, and for private posts for those times when they were needed - one of which has yet to be enabled, and the other of which was cut back after we decided the full featureset wouldn't work too well with the site)

Monday, 09-Dec-13 21:13:45 UTC from web
                                  1. @redenchilada well, something's being done right, because this is one of the few places i still go back to.

Monday, 09-Dec-13 21:16:22 UTC from web
                              2. @redenchilada ah thank you for that. I always wondered what might best describe RDN. It really is far superior to a chatroom

                2. @erkanyilmaz @redenchilada I personally didn't have anyone to actually talk to. We had a user migrate from here to there, but it was because he hated us, so I elected to let him be. Our user @Bitshift has a fragdev profile I think

                  1. critical: yes, could also be. perhaps RDN users were also # (so they don't get listed at public timeline) at identi.ca
