Only three away from my 300th tweet! In other news I passed 70k notices on here some time last month.

@redenchilada I have to outpost mushi. I want to beat Carcino before mushi does.
-
@nerthos Wait wait, how many posts does mushi have?
-
@redenchilada 89708. I'm about 2000 away from him. And 6500 away from Carcino.
-
congrats, that makes about 75.51 dents/day rainbowdash.net/conversation/3086844
-
@redenchilada@rainbowdash.net ... and you're actually #2 top denter in the !fediverse - only @schestowitz has 10k dents more than you. #denticator
-
@erkanyilmaz Really? Does that only count folks who communicate remotely or something? Because I know of at least three users on here with more notices than me.

C O O L - can you input their names at (1) ? we hope the denticator stats will come back. Currently - my guess - the top 20-30 are still old accounts from identica only :-( (2) (1) http://www.macno.org/denticator/ (2) http://oracle.skilledtests.com/conversation/126368#notice-344363
-
@erkanyilmaz Sure. I think it started lagging when I put the second guy's name in, though...

I'm sure it doesn't get everyday the chance/duty to read 200k dents or so in one go ;-)
-
I see now: " @mushi@rainbowdash.net (with 89k total dents, avg dent frequency (excluding days without posts) = 142.58) is locked since 2013-12-09 17:02:27 (GMT +0000). Please wait some minutes and retry " -> denticator needs to read 10k more dents of him cc @question
-
@erkanyilmaz ...Are you sure the identicator can handle all this at once? I'm sure it's smart enough to queue the loading of the notice backlogs as a background process, but the site does seem to go down for about half an hour per new account I load into it.
-
since #denticator is not my service, I can only make assumptions :-( cc @macno@stream.macno.org
-
the #invasion is in progress ;-) 5 of the top9 denters are now from rainbowdash.net

@redenchilada@rainbowdash.net and to other bronies: it makes me wonder why we never saw you back at identi.ca times ?
-
@erkanyilmaz Likely because most people on this site don't know what federation is or how it works. :p
-
@erkanyilmaz @redenchilada I personally didn't have anyone to actually talk to. We had a user migrate from here to there, but it was because he hated us, so I elected to let him be. Our user @Bitshift has a fragdev profile I think
-
talk to: we are changing this, slowly :-)
-
@erkanyilmaz Our community's definitely grown for the better around the inclusive nature of using the public timeline almost exclusively. Heck, I don't think I would've used this site for more than a week if it was run like a normal StatusNet instance.

@ceruleanspark Correct. Heck, that's where I know @erkanyilmaz from, though not under the same name. :P
-
@bitshift Given that you wrote Identicurse it makes sense you'd have interacted before
-
@ceruleanspark Not the only one who wrote it (one of three, originally one of two), but yeah.
-
nice to meet you (again) :-)
-
@erkanyilmaz Could it have been protecting their privacy? I imagine some folks might have been really critical had they known.
-
@erkanyilmaz ?
-
What does "using the public timeline " mean?
-
please see (1): we were finding out some #stats about the users on your #statusnet instance, you guys rock ;-) (1) rainbowdash.net/conversation/3088007
-
so, 60% of the top10 denters are from the #RDN statusnet + those 6 have created at least #380k messages #inProgress
-
@erkanyilmaz You don't even have Carcino (or whatever his username is at the moment) in there, either. :p

@redenchilada I think he's @maou

thx and yes :-) -> "Need to get 95032 dents, Elaboration time: ~ 1901 seconds. Continue?" cc @redenchilada
-
@erkanyilmaz #RDN #380k #inProgress what's 'RDN'?
-
that's the rainbowdash.net #statusnet instance which exists since #31 months
-
@erkanyilmaz #statusnet oh - I'd abbreviate that to RBD ;-)
-
@boneidol Prbbly RDN users watch the local TL where everything on RDN happens, instead of everyone's own TL. So subbing is unimportant.
-
I guess I'm influenced by their tag http://rainbowdash.net/tag/RDNstream
-
@erkanyilmaz oh, I see, that makes sense :)
-
@mk We use RDN to abbreviate because the character our site's named after has been called "RD" by other show characters, and then the Network at the end rounds it out to RDN.
erkanyilmaz and mcscx like this. -
@redenchilada I see, thanks for the explanation! Always interesting to see howo terms come into being.
-
@redenchilada I find RDN much like a massive pretty chatroom. and that's exactly why I love it.
-
@techdisk >chatroom
get out -
@boneidol it means that most of the users here, including myself, watch the stream of what every single person posts, very much like a chatroom.
-
@redenchilada @techdisk What exactly is statusnet's purpose if not chatting?
-
@redenchilada @techdisk oh yeah the public timeline isn't usually the main thing most instances use..
-
@redenchilada oh shush. its a good analogy. maybe IRC with pictures and a website is better? either way everyone sees what everyone else posts.
-
@redenchilada Chatroom? I thought this site was a Google Wave instance.
-
@mcscx @boneidol That's pretty much what most of our userbase does, yeah. I've done some messing around with our branch of StatusNet to alleviate some of the drawbacks from that, such as making notices from remote users visible on Public (but only when the user browsing is subscribed to them, so that something that didn't necessarily follow our instance's ruleset wasn't exposed to the entire userbase).
-
@broniebrown I never thought I'd say this, but Statusnet works too well to be google wave
Pony and erkanyilmaz like this. -
@ceruleanspark Suddenlly I have the urge to install it on my home server just to test it.
-
@techdisk It's in the connotations. Chatrooms are considered more instantaneous - that is to say, conversations have a finite lifetime, that's usually in the realm of hours, and posts have little permanence. StatusNet, in contrast, keeps a record of all posts forever, and conversations can easily be extended across days, or between people who are never on at the same time, which is something most chatrooms can't do.
What I'm trying to say is I take issue with the site being called a "chatroom" when calling it something like "open-ended social networking" better fits what the site's capable of. -
"Statusnet works too well" - @ceruleanspark 2013
scoot and erkanyilmaz like this. -
@redenchilada I never said it was exactly the same, but I see what you mean.
-
@techdisk My views on that are why I've avoided implementing features like "who's online" into the site. And also my primary motivation for upgrading to 1.x (for the different post types centered on having a longer shelf life, and for private posts for those times when they were needed - one of which has yet to be enabled, and the other of which was cut back after we decided the full featureset wouldn't work too well with the site)
-
@redenchilada ah thank you for that. I always wondered what might best describe RDN. It really is far superior to a chatroom
-
@redenchilada well, something's being done right, because this is one of the few places i still go back to.
-
so, 6 of the #top8 denters are from rainbowdash.net, and those 6 have posted #447655 messages so far
-
... #3 uses twitter nowadays (1), #6 went to G+ (2). (1) http://oracle.skilledtests.com/conversation/213125#notice-347595 (2) http://oracle.skilledtests.com/conversation/185816#notice-289571

what was @broniebrown@rainbowdash.net 's experience? "Suddenlly I have the urge to install #statusnet on my home server just to test it." http://rainbowdash.net/conversation/3086844#notice-3171617 cc @question
-
@redenchilada ...when suddenly a downtime of a week...
-
@erkanyilmaz I didn't install neither Statusnet nor wave. My little ARM machine is already on its limits with running owncloud.
-
I see, in case you have the urge again: you can install #statusnet on RedHat's #OpenShift (e.g. @eric@status-ericxdu.rhcloud.com is running it since 9 months there) AND you can still continue to talk with your #RDN buddies
