  1. Trying to decide between a 3DS and a 3DS XL... !vgp

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 05:42:53 UTC from web
    1. @scribus The XL costs $30 more and is harder to carry in a pants pocket so I say go for the original.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 05:48:05 UTC from web
      1. @redenchilada But bigger screen (and also body for my monstrous hands) and longer battery life~

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 05:49:38 UTC from web
        1. @scribus The battery life on my 3DS has never been an issue, unless it doesn't get put back in its charger every day or two. Otherwise, I guess just look for a display at a Target or Gamestop or something you can try it out at.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:06:11 UTC from web
          1. @redenchilada I've only ever been able to try one or the other at a demo display, so I don't have a true comparison.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:07:50 UTC from web
            1. @scribus I highly prefer the 3DS XL for its size, battery life and ease on my hands.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:09:32 UTC from web
            2. @scribus If you want my opinion, having used both I found the XL a bit big to be held comfortably, with the original a perfect size for my hands. I dunno how big your hands are in comparison to mine, though. (Mine ain't really /fat/ hands, but they're not small either.)

              1. @redenchilada Are you sure you're not a dwarf?

                1. @flamingpandaomg He's a hobbit.

                  1. @northernnarwhal Now with hairy feet features!

                    1. @flamingpandaomg Ring DLC sold separately.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:18:09 UTC from web
                2. @flamingpandaomg No, I'm pretty sure I'm a normal-sized human being.

                  1. @redenchilada I don't believe you, Frodo.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:17:26 UTC from web
              2. @redenchilada You see, that's weird because I've also used both but I honestly think the XL fits my hands more comfortably. It might just be because I have pretty big hands though.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:14:53 UTC from web
              3. @redenchilada Ideal controller size is mostly based on finger lenght, not so much in thickness.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:16:12 UTC from web
              4. @redenchilada I've got long fingers, but I've found myself perfectly comfortable with smaller things (like my little netbook's keyboard).

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:17:35 UTC from web
                1. @scribus Hell, if you can use a netbook keyboard comfortably, the original 3DS would be perfect. I can't do /anything/ on a netbook keyboard.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:20:18 UTC from web
                  1. @redenchilada People kept telling me I should play piano. Also, basketball. My fingers only relate to one of these.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:25:42 UTC from web
    2. @scribus Unless you have serious issues with portability, go for an XL. Bigger screen and gripping surface and the hardware is all around better.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 05:49:36 UTC from web
      1. @nerthos Decisions, decisions...

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 05:51:43 UTC from web
        1. @scribus It comes down to wether you only have small pockets or not. If you tend to wear something with big pockets or carry around a bag of any type, the XL is better. If not, it'll be bothersome to carry and you'll be better off with an original.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 05:53:24 UTC from web
          1. @nerthos Considering I like Levi's 501s (not large pockets at all), I think even with a regular 3DS I may opt for another carrying method... Which , I guess, only further lends itself to getting the XL.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 05:55:12 UTC from web
            1. @scribus I never put stuff of considerable size in my pants' pockets. A jacket's inside pockets are the best for carrying that stuff.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 05:58:07 UTC from web
              1. @nerthos Yeah, being So Cal and all, I only wear a jacket about two weeks per winter...

                1. @scribus Carcino told me about the weather, yeah. Today, at the peak of summer I had about 100ºf at noon, and he in the middle of winter had 81ºf

                  1. @nerthos Eeyup.

                  2. @nerthos Where I am it's been around -15C to -20C. Also, we got hit by a huge ice storm and a bunch of areas are without power and heat, plus the ice has frozen onto trees and is causing them to topple over everywhere. My neighbourhood almost looks like a war zone.

                    1. @northernnarwhal About 30ºC at night here. Summer sucks.

                      1. @nerthos That's pretty hot. Whereabouts are you?

                          1. @nerthos Oh neat, I had a comp science teacher from Argentina. If you didn't already guess from some of my other posts, I'm from Canada.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:13:40 UTC from web
                            1. @northernnarwhal I assumed so. Either Canada or somewhere around Scandinavia due to the temperatures.

                              1. @nerthos Once you get past the fact that during this time of year there's snow everywhere, it's actually a very beautiful country.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:17:40 UTC from web
                                1. @northernnarwhal I really like snow and everything ice-related though

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:18:54 UTC from web
                                  1. @nerthos Once you've driven through it you tend to have second thoughts.

                      2. @nerthos Bugger any temperature above 10C.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:10:43 UTC from web
                        1. @awlderpy Due to living here I like temperatures around 15ºC. Of course I could get used to colder temperatures by living in a colder place for some years.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:12:08 UTC from web
                          1. @nerthos Quite true, I've lived most of my life in colder climates year round even; just prefer them immensely. Sardinia was close to literal Hell for me.

                    2. @northernnarwhal And yet, people complain about California "not having seasons." As far as I can tell, seasons are dangerous!

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:09:40 UTC from web
                      1. @scribus I have relatives in California who told me they wanted some of "Canada's winter" and all I told them was to be careful what they wish for. Although don't you guys get really nasty forest fires?

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:11:23 UTC from web
                        1. @northernnarwhal We do tend to have a "fire" season.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 06:16:59 UTC from web
            2. @scribus Or, of course, suit pockets, but that's not an every day thing.

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 05:58:33 UTC from web
    3. @scribus !vgp This depends more on your own size preferrence really, also whether or not you want to use this 3D gimmick actively or from time to time. The 2DS might be even more attractive for you once you figured out the above 2 questions

Thursday, 26-Dec-13 21:42:29 UTC from web
      1. @critialcloudkicker I did consider the 2DS, but I wanted to have clamshell ability.

Friday, 27-Dec-13 05:51:30 UTC from web
        1. @scribus ... Clamshell ability ?

Friday, 27-Dec-13 18:42:22 UTC from web
          1. @critialcloudkicker The handleld folding shut.

Friday, 27-Dec-13 18:50:47 UTC from web
            1. @scribus Hmm, yea, that is a rather neat feature and also the primary reason why you should not want to drop it EVER ! ( I got a Wii Wristwatch on mine, just in case ) ... I'd recommend the 3DSXL if you have big pockets then, and/or the 3DS(regular) if your pockets are not that big and do ever so slighty care about a bigger screen.

Friday, 27-Dec-13 18:53:51 UTC from web
              1. @critialcloudkicker I ended up with the 3DS XL because that was what they had in stock. :p

Friday, 27-Dec-13 18:55:36 UTC from web
                1. @scribus Know that you can never ever go back to a smaller screen now... sorta... When they release the Nintendo 4DS... if that ever happens... Grats on your purchase :) What games are you working on/through ?

Friday, 27-Dec-13 18:57:26 UTC from web
                  1. @critialcloudkicker I've got Pokemon X, and I aim to get LoZ: OoT.

Friday, 27-Dec-13 19:03:55 UTC from web
                    1. @scribus I have Pokemon X and I aim to get LoZ: OoT aswell :) But I am sort of focussing too much time on my PC as of late, well all the free time I have availible to me that is.
