  1. My netbook is dying. USB ports fuzzing out, keys on the keyboard not working... Can't decide if I want to fix it or get a new lappy. Of course fixing it is cheaper, and damn it all it's been a faithful machine for this long, but . . . new. Improved. Upgrade. #

    1. @scribus Keep it, turn it into a headless server. USB hubs. Bitcoin miners. Media streaming. That stuff

      1. @ceruleanspark wonder if my laptop would be worth using as either of these anymore.

      2. @ceruleanspark Yeah, that's part of the argument for a new lappy, too...

    2. @vt3c He runs Linux on it so you can more or less 100% remove drivers from the equation. Linux drivers do not fail quietly.

      1. @ceruleanspark Any idea on the model? I've got an old netbook I don't need anymore that sorta sucks but if it's the same they can be frankensteined together. Granted, it's an EeePC 900 so it's old as all hell, but the offer stands.

        1. @xeleanorxrigbyx My EEE is a 701. I'm kicking it oldest possible school

          1. @ceruleanspark If it's anything like the one I have, I apologize. Although I would imagine mine would increase exponentially if I threw more RAM in it.

            1. @xeleanorxrigbyx I'm reconfiguring it into a semi-autonomous internet anonymiser. Different MAC address every boot, auto-starting privoxy and opening an SSH Tunnel over port 80 into a secure server of mine

                1. @xeleanorxrigbyx Install XMBC on it and hook it up to your TV. Portable hard disk full of shows, or a netflix account and you're set.

                  1. @ceruleanspark That is a good idea, but at this point in my home sorta redundant. Between the Wii, PS3, PS4 and a desktop we've got the movies/netflix covered. Good idea though. :)
