              1. @derpy128 America would be 20% cooler if it had fewer gun restrictions, higher living standards, and genuine universal healthcare. ;)

                2. @m14brony Absolutely universal healthcare gets abused though. We have it here and hospitals aren't really a nice place to be in.

                  1. @nerthos Medical bills constitute one of the main reasons for bankruptcy over here in the USA. A good deal of countries with such a system have a higher life expectancy than we do.

Friday, 12-Dec-14 05:23:42 UTC from web
                    1. @m14brony More of them that have said systeme do not, it's not a question of the systeme itself it's a question of how developed those countries were before the advent of socialised medicine.

                    2. @m14brony But there must be limits, otherwise the good, working people, and specially the elderly, are subjected to terribly long waits, vandalized equipment, and the stench of less than hygienic types. I outright avoid the public hospital and prefer to spend money when I need a doctor because of the undesirables that gather there in large numbers to take advantage of a service they don't contribute to nor care for in any way.

                      1. @nerthos This anecdotal example seems more of an issue of bureaucratic mismanagement and under-investment than of a problem with universal healthcare in itself.

This exposes the waste of the US healthcare system: http://www.pnhp.org/resources/administrative-waste-consumes-31-percent-of-health-spending

There is also a strong mandate for genuine universal healthcare in the US: http://www.pnhp.org/sites/default/files/docs/2011/Kip-Sullivan-Two-thirds-support-medicare-for-all.pdf

                        1. @m14brony The issue is not with the management but with the users. And honestly I have no rush to fix the internal issues of USA, I'd rather first have them stop bothering other countries, and THEN solve their own issues.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 02:55:53 UTC from web
                          1. @nerthos Regarding the issue with the users: [citation needed]. Furthermore, this issue comes up in the US, as right-wing propaganda from major health insurance companies (they have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo) depicts the privatized healthcare system as being better for all patients when this clearly isn't the case.

                            1. @m14brony I have a whole country of proof here if you want to check, but you're probably too leftie for words to convince you of anything.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 03:23:17 UTC from web
                              1. @nerthos And I am offered...mere words. No statistics of any kind ("whole country" is a phrase that anyone can throw about; I can just as easily use "my" country as a "whole country of proof"). One can also just as easily counter a claim of being "too leftie to listen" with "too rightie to listen."

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 03:30:32 UTC from web
                                1. @m14brony I'm offering you coming here and checking the free hospitals yourself, I just can't pay for your plane tickets.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 04:02:20 UTC from web
                                  1. @nerthos You've seen all of these hospitals in person? Or am I being offered an anecdotal example? Furthermore, when you set up a private healthcare system alongside a public one, rich, powerful people are going to invest in (and use) the private system. They will use their economic "might" to make inroads into the healthcare system with the aim of privatizing as much of the system they can.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 04:18:12 UTC from web
                                    1. @m14brony Think about it for a second. Does it make sense for me to have never attended free hospitals in the city I live and the rest of the province, in 21 years living here, and with a decently sized extended family sharing experiences? You're blinded by your own stone-set ideas.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 04:33:08 UTC from web
                                      1. @nerthos Again, I was asking for statistical evidence, not anecdotal examples from a given portion of a country. A city, province, or extended family leaves many variables out of the equation. My family has personally seen a hospital system prioritizing those with a cough over those with a head injury. Nevertheless, I wouldn't dare to assume that every hospital operates in this fashion. And how do we explain hospitals in advanced countries with universal healthcare lacking the conditions you describe? If universal healthcare in itself were the culprit, we should see such conditions wherever such healthcare systems exist.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 04:49:46 UTC from web
                                        1. @m14brony No point.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 04:57:17 UTC from web
                                          1. @nerthos Thus the most elementary methods of debating and critical thinking expose the vacuous nature of your methods.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 05:18:41 UTC from web
                                            1. @m14brony No, it's just that we'd never reach an agreement on anything, so going through all that effort is a complete waste. You're more focused in fulfilling all the criteria of this academic method that you have than you are on actually presenting an argument.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 05:30:57 UTC from web
                                              1. @nerthos If I used your methods in a basic critical thinking course I was required to take, I would have failed the course. You simply make assertions and you expect me to take your word as good coin. I never expected anyone to take my word as good coin, and this is why I posted links to sources. Your method explains nothing. Who these "undesirables" are and how they wreck things isn't explained, the prevalence of the public hospital conditions you describe isn't explained. How many of them have this problem? Ten percent in one province? Thirty percent nationwide? All if them nationwide? And even if we assume all of them have such problems, why is that? Is it under-investment as my sources note when it comes to public hospitals with such problems? Is it an inherent flaw in universal healthcare? Is it because of Bob Saget? Nothing is explained. None if your arguments are corroborated.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 05:40:15 UTC from web
                                                1. @m14brony We're casually debating things on a horse site. If I wanted to write a monograph with dozens of corroborated sources I'd do it at an university or congress and likely get something out of it, be it recognition, a title or payment.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 05:45:03 UTC from web
                                                  1. @nerthos Another cop-out in place of an argument.

                                                    1. @m14brony Call it what you will. I call it an end.

Saturday, 13-Dec-14 05:54:51 UTC from web
                                                      1. @nerthos You have the time to make more posts on this site than I will make in many years, but you suddenly can't be bothered to actually back anything to say. I know what to call this: concrete evidence that your methods of making an argument are the least reliable of such methods employed on RDN.

                                                    2. @m14brony He's not arguing anything at this point, you're the one who's still trying to prove you're right when there's nothing to actually be right about as if it's some kind of contrarian olympics. Just let it go.
