@mrmattimation shush

@yodeleerie No, seriously. When I was a kid I wanted to make video games but I'm too lazy to be a coder.
Friday, 23-Oct-15 02:46:53 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation Same here except I also found out that coding sucks and I hate it
Friday, 23-Oct-15 02:47:59 UTC from web -
@mrmattimation With all of the feature-packed frameworks and WYSIWYG engines out there nowadays, you don't even have to touch a line of code to make a game any more

@redenchilada If I ever made a game I'd probably want to use something like Game Maker to do it. The the only hurdle would be that I'm not very confident in my artistic ability, specifically sprite making

@nightmarenarwhal The ever-so-popular thing to do is draw scribbly placeholders and see if someone will help you make things look good. (Or make the scribbly placeholders into a visual style) Also I'd recommend anything Clickteam makes over Game Maker. It gets to be a clustergrape for huge projects but it's way easier to get into than GM IMO
Friday, 23-Oct-15 02:53:10 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Fair enough, thanks for the recommendation. I don't really have any inclination right now to create a game, but I'll keep Clickteam in mind for the future should such a project come up.

@nightmarenarwhal I've considered Game Maker as a route for a My Little Brony game. The only issue is I'd want it to look exactly like my animation and I'm not sure if Game Maker sprites have that capability.

@mrmattimation Undertale was made in GM so take that as you will

@mrmattimation I don't really have my ear to the ground for these kinds of software, I've just heard good things through the grapevine about Game Maker. Red's suggested I look into Clickteam's software, though.

@nightmarenarwhal A lot of good games have been made with Clickteam stuff. The Knytt series (and all of Nifflas' stuff), Freedom Planet, and Lyle in Cube Sector are things that immediately come to mind. (Also as much as I detest it, IWBTG was made in it too)
Friday, 23-Oct-15 03:00:03 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Off topic, but I've been wanting to play Freedom Planet for a while now. It looks like a really engaging platformer and I really like some of the designs I've seen from it.
Friday, 23-Oct-15 03:02:33 UTC from web-
@nightmarenarwhal I got really frustrated with the combat mechanics it has, but the platforming itself is great. (Play Classic mode, though; the cutscenes are actually cringe-worthy)
Friday, 23-Oct-15 03:04:16 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Aw, so the writing sucks? :( I mean, I haven't played a good 2D platformer in a while and it looks like fun, but bad writing in a game can really turn me off from a game
Friday, 23-Oct-15 03:06:10 UTC from web-
@nightmarenarwhal The writing isn't particularly notable one way or the other. The voice acting, on the other hand, is like the lowest-quality of Newgrounds sprite animation videos.
Friday, 23-Oct-15 03:07:23 UTC from web-
@redenchilada I think voice actors, when present, are an underrated facet of game design. Armin Shimerman's performance in Bioshock did wonders elevating Andrew Ryan's character.

@mrmattimation @yodeleerie @nightmarenarwhal That's a large part of why I fell in love with pen-and-paper gaming. All the gaming, none of the grinding. And then there's that thing @redenchilada said, too.
Friday, 23-Oct-15 02:49:51 UTC from web-
@scrybus I need to get back into writing. I'll publish my piece on Undertale once I stop constantly getting distracted here from it
