  1. Today was evidently the one-too-many'th time I had to listen to my coworkers spewing various LGBTQ-phobias. Though, I did rant and rave more about the fact that they were standing around gabbing than the fact that I don't need to hear the rest of the crew blaming everything wrong in the world today on people I deeply care about.

  2. I'm close to buying a house: my current offer is at 225.000€ for a 88m² house with 4 rooms, 163 m² parcel. However I have to do a ton of work there to get it to a state that is up to current standards, like the electric switch box, the bathrooms, windows... The garden is also more a jungle than habitable. I hope I won't regret it.

  4. The biggest trap in"adult" animation is that it uses vulgarity and crass situations too often. It's easy to appeal to juvenile adults with "forbidden" stuff like violence and sexuality but the more lasting stuff are the more day-to-day real adult situations the characters have to deal with. These situations can be comical or otherwise but the basis has to be familiar and relatable and somewhat a base adult life experience. The earlier Simpsons seasons are one of the best as they are not flanderized to the extreme. Bob's Burgers is similar as most episodes deal with heightened but not completely unrealistic situations. I'm not against some violence but it can be grating and numbing and boring when it is used too often.

    • @chomper These days you can throw a stone and always hit one. The last one I saw was "Inside Job" on Netflix, mostly because it was produced by Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls) but it was sadly right in the valley of mediocrity because it went "adult" route and used unnecessary vulgarity.

    • @chomper Hey, I love "Helluva Boss!" I don't deny any of the accusations, lol. Just saying that uuhhhh..... I guess it's lazy *if* you're doing it for fauz gravitas, but it can still be fun. I wouldn't say that's *all* HB has going for it or going on; there's a lot of interpersonal relationship and character development under the bloodbath and pottymouth.

    • @scribus I like most of helluva actually! I just find the edgy humor to be boring and uncreative lol. But I genuinely like a few of the characters and the worldbuilding/lore.

  9. I keep running into this problem where the things I write are usually totally cool on the internet where nobody can really stop me from describing mangoio in the crudest terms possible, but right now I’m writing for what is possibly going to be on television and those same words would probably get me a very nasty letter from standards and practices. It’s very hard to go from writing like you’re your own boss to writing in such a way that won’t lose the network twenty million dollars in Wendy’s advertising.

    • @zeldatra Do like other great shows did: invent new dirty words! Battlestar Galactica used *frak* all the time. It's not about the word, it's all about the inflection. I believe the most innocent word can be turned into a swear word when it's used as a swear word long enough. Using adjacent words can be also a nice opportunity to widen the vocabulary.

  13. OK.... Tears of the Kingdom... What does "tears" refer to? Is it the liquid coming out of the eyes (for example while crying) or is it the edge of two pieces of a material/object that has been ripped apart (for example tearing a piece of paper in two pieces)?

  16. Ooof... The new Youtube redesign of the browser-side interface is awful.
I wanted to read some comments and scrolled down but it was greeted with more video recommendations. The comments were like on mobile tablet where they popped up on the side upon clicking a special button to reveal comments. I saw this redesign only once. Apparently it was very temporary as I haven't seen it since. I'm not very hopeful it will stay that way.

    • @scribus The masterminds at Budweiser came up with the perfect evil plan: if you don't buy it you're a somethingphobe, if you buy it you have to drink Bud Light. With this masterful move, they can cause suffering to all peoples of the nation.

  22. I was reading Dilbert from 2004 to 2009-ish. The content was more recycled than the paper it was printed on. I definitely stopped after Scott Adams did something stupid as well around that time, I don't know what it was anymore. Also he said some anti-vax stuff in regards to Covid-19 and was also favorable to Trump. The recent outburst of racism is barely surprising.

  23. My search for a house is not going forward. As I thought I got one my banker told me the house ain't worth the asking price. The banker's estimate is too far off for getting a credit. He was right in hindsight as further investment would be needed to get it anywhere worthwile. It was a house from the 60s and not much has been done there. Also currently all houses on the market are overpriced as the interest rates jumped up and the houses on offer are needing a lot of TLC.

  25. The house will require a lot of work, like new electric wiring, new windows, and a new heating system as it is required here to replace a gas heater every 30 years and it is a few years until retirement. I'll replace it with something 100% electric and a heat pump and install solar panels on the roof.

  27. Got my tires yesterday and put them on my bike today. As it turns out, and as obvious it is in hindsight, the culprit for the puncture was a tiny rock. A rock as pointy as a needle and as black as the tire. I could only find it by guesstimating the location by the puncture location on the hose and then pushing really hard into the spot on the tire. The rock has dug into the rubber and I couldn't see it on my first inspection.

    • @scribus In a way I was very lucky that the little piece of Potato Knishes was found in the first place and it didn't got me stranded far away from home. I was lucky that it happened close to home. I have a small set of stairs a few meters in front of my cellar. There I pull my bicycle down so it bounces on the edge of the steps. Just as I opened my cellar door my bike fell on its own (it was on its kickstand) and there I found the flat. Moments before I could cycle and didn't feel anything out of the ordinary, i.e. I had full pressure in the hose (between 4 and 5 bar).
