The thing about the internet is that a lot of people seem to have a problem distinguishing between private and public spaces. If you go on Twitter and declare to the world that you are a demisexual panda-tree hybridkin and that your pronouns are now "Christ/Christself", you are performing essentially the same actions as the crazy homeless guy who comes up to you in the street and tells you he's an alien from the future come to save mankind.

@awlditzy I think it's entirely possibly to conduct your life in segments of the internet where that kind of thing still doesn't happen, but it seems to be becoming increasingly pervasive. It's like everyone is a 90's furry, except instead of being compelled to tell everyone their fetish, they feel compelled to tell everyone everything about themselves all the time.

@ceruleanspark this is either the product of the social network, or what birthed it. Chicken or egg situation basically. I suppose time will tell whether this is worse or better than the trend of yesterday, or just the same.

@ceruleanspark 1/2 I think that this is because of the liberal society that we have been brought up in. Everyone now is encouraged to be 'themselves' and be real at all times. individuality is held to be the highest standard of achievement. That with the second great wave of individuation since the 60's has lead to this.
The LGBT movement may be to blame, or maybe the fact that society is more connected now. Before if you lived in a small town you had to hide sides of yourself away, with the internet there you can always find other freaks like yourself, and with the attitude of society in general you are encountered to be that person at all times because discrimination is wrong.

@metaltao Its me. 100% this time. Its just no BSL (ASL) for ponies I guess. But whenever I try to approach the issue, it especially deafness, it goes to more militant parts of wanting to be fixed vs being part of a special community rather than wanting to be part of society.

But this is just what makes me afaid of asking others.......
