  1. @thatonestocking This has nothing to do with someone personally wanting to spy on me, these are automated processes. However, they do allow people to look back whenever they feel like it, and it has been used often enough.

  2. @juicyorange Google makes money from advertisers. Advertisements which are correctly targeted are more effective. If advertisements are more effective, the advertisers are more happy and will continue to use Google's services for advertisements. Their whole existence is all about gathering as much information about you as they can, so that they can target advertisements as well as possible on you and make more money.

  3. @ceruleanspark I look at the permissions of apps and run a Firewall, and try to use apps from F-Droid instead of Google Play whenever possible. Even though that only makes it possible to read the code, I do know what you mean. You'll always have to put some trust in others, but I'd rather trust people who have been marked as "good people" by the FSF than trust properly-dressed spokespeople of big companies with their shiny blue eyes.

  4. @omni What would also help would be getting rid of Gmail. And switching my Google Calendar over to... this other thing I can host myself. But I need a server to take control back over my information and I can't think of a cheap one which I can trust to buy!

  6. @omni Not using Google Talk should help as well to not let Google into my life, but I can't think of a cool domain name to use together with my local XMPP server and, without a domain name, you can't communicate with other XMPP instances.

  7. @omni *with my privacy. The device doesn't really care. I know they can still track my location over those... phone, thingies, forgot how they are called, but an alternative OS like Replicant should at least stop Google from knowing all the stuff.

  8. @ceruleanspark My next phone is going to be one supported by the free "Replicant" system because I do like Android, but I kinda am starting to understand that it is more of a risk than I should actually be taking with my device.

  9. "If you are carrying a portable surveillance and tracking device, please turn it off. They have already tracked you here. They already know that you are listening to me, so there is no need for you to keep telling them that you are still here. And if they want to listen to what I am saying, we're going to publish the video recording anyway. They don't need to turn on your portable surveillance device to do it." ~Richard Stallman during the third international GPLv3 conference after a cellphone rang.

  10. @chibiterasu You should be able to do that now

  11. @chibiterasu I should've probably read this post first. I do kinda understand what you mean, but I'm not sure how to reply to that. I don't really appear to be all that good in making friends, so I do end up staying in a clique, yeah, and I guess that's similar to many others. Isn't our whole society nothing but bigger and smaller cliques? I don't think you would be able to get along with anyone, maybe finding a clique you belong to works well? I'm not sure here though, sorry...

  12. @chibiterasu I have it with some people, some days worse than others. The hide feature in RDNRefresh helps (http://rainbowdash.net/settings/rdnrefresh), but I understand what you mean. There are enough people here who I manage to anger just by being there. Live and let live, I suppose, you can't get along with everyone.

  13. @chibiterasu Or, a better idea, we talk, get to know each other better, and you get a friend who can try to prevent you from doing something you'll regret like that. I have some addresses you can add me on on my profile, not being alone will probably somewhat help you now.

  15. There are so many moments where people can complain about me saying stupid stuff like calling all movies junk without giving any arguments, but out of all moments they obviously need to choose the ones where I am slightly panicking and most vulnerable. I know people aren't doing it on purpose, but it's almost like they're waiting for me to show vulnerability to just make me feel that tiny bit crappier... *sighs*

  18. Well, ▓▒░ TORLEY ░▒▓'s album Glitch Piano is the first 50-song album which hasn't severely disappointed me yet. It's also the first 50-song album I have ever listened to. The weird combination of piano and glitchy electronic stuff is quite enjoyable. If someone is looking into trying something new for three hours, here's the free download: http://music.torley.com/album/glitch-piano # !ccmusic #

  25. Today, an update of your-freedom conflicted with steam and pretty much forced me to remove it. I'm starting to have a hard time staying completely libre, so I'll probably go mainly libre and put non-libre things I do want to use in a container or so.

  30. If I could have a superpower, I would want to be able to listen to multiple songs at once and enjoy it as much as I would enjoy each song on their own. Dammit, I hate not being able to choose what to listen to...
