hiii everypony. it's nice to meet you all, I'll only be friends with you as long as your not creepy, perverted,or just weird. I'm 15! and I'm a guy ^^

@khaliljohnson12344 Hi. This site is far from what you fear of. But weird it'll be one way or another.

I've cut into my fingernail of my index finger and have split the damn thing in half. No major injury. Only the fingernail itself is affected. The lack of structural integrity there feels soo odd and annoying. Even with nail polish holding it together (borrowed a transparent nail polish from my mother) it turns out to be an annoyance. At least I'm not afraid anymore of the split going any further.

@adiwan Yikes!!
-
@scribus It's half as bad as it sounds. It's only a 5mm (1/5th inch) cut. I tried a new transparent matte nail polish and it looks almost as good as new, except for a little blood under the nail and a little bit of white around the cut. I applied 4 thick coats and the finger nail is usable for light work like scratching the nose.

In German the word for queue is "Schlange". It's the same word for the word "snake". "In der Schlange stehen" means "standing in the queue". Translating it literally it means "standing in the snake". I'm happy that the snake population in Germany is low enough that this expression doesn't mean anything bad except for wasting time.

@zeldatra I guess Florida does something to a human on a deep psychological level that the extraordinary becomes the mundane.

I feel like I'm one of the last ones reading/watching pony content.
Sunday, 11-Apr-21 13:39:00 UTC from web -
Watching "Way of the House Husband". Its animation is as minimal as it gets. It's more motion comic than usual animation. I guess they are fixed on recreating the manga panels. There are a ton of static images with pans and simple mouth animations. Sometimes there is a ton of shaking implying intense action but it looks odd when everything shakes but nothing moves. It's fine I guess but I had different expectations. Also an episode is divided into several smaller episodes that also recreate each manga chapter as closely as it can get. The pacing feels a tad off as the story starts and stops every 3 minutes.

@scribus I've never seen any movie he created (directed or produced). The closest would have been the Toxic Avenger cartoon. Maybe I've seen the first Toxic Avenger but I have seen so many clips of the movie my memory isn't sure about watching it at all. All assimilated by popculture osmosis.
-
@adiwan It be that way, sometimes
-
@adiwan But Troma have managed to make feature films for a half-million dollar budget pretty reliably all the while, not inflation adjusted - $500,000 in 80s money for 80s movies, and still $500k in 2010s money for 2010s movies. And that has included some endearing jank, like a car flip/explosion they've used constantly since 1991 or so.

@scribus To answer the question I just got via email, the server is a basic digitalocean droplet. The $20 one. Depending on how much traffic you're expecting, you could easily run a couple of instances on there.

@ceruleanspark Groovy, thanks. I have a couple $5 ones for some blogs I wanna keep IP isolated, and was eyeballing a $10 for startup. Good to know.

Binged through the whole series of "My Name Is Earl". I can somewhat understand why they pulled the cord and cancelled the series at the end of season 4. While fun it was kind of repetitive or insane and thus alienating any new watchers. Also it got increasingly serialized despite of its episodic nature at the beginning.
Tuesday, 06-Apr-21 19:43:25 UTC from web-
@adiwan Officially, the cancelation happened because of financial issues over at NBC from the then-recent recession. They had been given the go-ahead to start writing for a fifth season, which is why the fourth one ends on a cliffhanger.
-
@zeldatra Sure. I have also read that. But when I look at the viewership numbers they were decreasing rapidly towards the end. I don't know what happened in April of 2009 but they might have spooked some people in the upper management in addition to the financial crisis. They could have at least resolve the cliffhanger and do a somewhat proper ending to the series.
-
@adiwan TV Tropes mentions an official "What if" ending, per the creator. I like knowing that, even if they didn't get to film it.

@adiwan Lock Picking Lawyer had a groaningly base one, but his was at least brief and not overly tortured
-
@scribus LPL was one of the better ones. Yeah... the puns were groanworthy, but at least he has shown a nice set of locks, and thus in line with his regular content. The briefness is also welcome, although it's somewhat longer than the usual stuff.
-
@adiwan Yup. It was stupid but still enlightening, and over by the time I was done laughing at the joke. Nailed it, lol
-
-
I started binge-watching "My Name is Earl". Wholesome dumb stuff.

@adiwan It's a sweet show, I enjoyed the random episodes I caught.
-
@scribus I was also watching random episodes when it was running on TV but it didn't grab my attention enough to keep watching. Maybe it was a bad time slot or the German dub.
-
@adiwan My mom actually watched it regularly, so it would often be on when I was visiting and there was already a . . . "social" or "collective" disposition to it, I guess?
-
So you know how they've got those nigh-pornographic art models with the poseable skeletons and all that jazz? Do they make them in non-human? Looking for a mouse or a rat... uh, also non-lewd. I don't need a sexy mouse. Not yet....
Saturday, 27-Mar-21 20:26:28 UTC from web-
@adiwan I dunno, lol. This is really probably just Perfectionism stepping on Productivity's toes. Mostly I just was looking for a reliable way to check if something I would write would be physically plausible. But I've already taken pages of notes on "The Secret of NIMH" and other cartoons and actual live animal footage, so I probably don't *need* anything at all.
-
@thelastgherkin Dude I've seen that before! And it is a good idea... um, in the context of trying to make an anatomical/biomechanical model. heh
-
@scribus I think it's cheaper to buy a real mouse and not bother trying to replicate the skeleton in order to see if a pose is even possible. Yeah... It'd bite back but still cheaper time-wise and financially. I don't think pet shops allow anybody willy-nilly to grab a mouse and contort it.
-
-
When I break it down I could buy about 3400 comics instead of a car.
Thursday, 25-Mar-21 15:51:56 UTC from web-
@adiwan OK *now* I'm conflicted, lol
-
@scribus I calculate a cost of a thing in comics for a longer time. Like: Do I buy a new crate with my favorite drink or buy 4 comics instead?
-
@adiwan I would usually translate it into hours based on whatever I was paid at the time. "This gameplay had better last longer than the work to buy it."
-
-
Buying a new car, even a cheaper new car, is still a huge thing to put money into. That huge purchase makes all the little things look insignificant. "4€ for a bread, it's nothing, doesn't cost as much a car."
Thursday, 25-Mar-21 08:42:25 UTC from web-
@scribus OK. That's an inflation problem. A new car costs now less than it did back then. A modern car has in addition a computer, entertainment system, navigation, explosives (air bags), automatic driving assistants (break, lane control, distance, parking). Although a house usually keeps its value or increases it over time.
-
@adiwan Yeah, it's a thing. The other week for me it was, $2100 for a new bed? Why not, that's only 1/26th what we paid for our Tesla. No but seriously, I still feel tremendously guilty and uncomfortable when I go to a restaurant.
-
@oracle Crom, I paid a grand for my bed and thought that was stiff, then again it is only for one...

@ceruleanspark don't give in

@tiff They're like "our free offering only lets you send 10000 messages a month though!"

I bought a damn new car. It hurts my wallet but at least it's a more sane purchase than I did for many other things. About 13000€ for a Fiat Tipo Station Wagon.

Learned that the pharmacist at my store got yelled at by my boss because he gave me the covid vaccine that made me so sick I had to call out. Oops?
Monday, 08-Mar-21 20:23:19 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation Your boss is just plain stupid. Any vaccine can provoke lessened symptoms of the disease, making one feel sick, although the strength of them can vary much.. For example the annual flu vaccine can do that as well. It's not an unusual or unheard side-effect of vaccines. Also, just from the cost-benefit side, he could have a bigger loss of productivity if you caught the real thing later. Also as an employer he has to be aware that anyone can sick at any time. It sucks but that's the job of an employer or manager to deal with sudden sick days.
-
@adiwan I think the issue was more that it was completely unscheduled and out of nowhere so they didn’t have time to replace me when I was suddenly too ill to work the next day. In retrospect it was probably irresponsible of me to have taken it when I knew I had work the next day but like, hey, the vial was gonna go to waste otherwise.
-
-
Hey uh guess who just got a surprise Covid vaccine
Saturday, 06-Mar-21 01:35:40 UTC from web-
@scribus i literally was just walking by the pharmacy in my store and the pharmacist was like "hey Matt... we got one more dose left and i don't have any more appointments... want it?" was pretty much in the exact right place at the exact right time

@scribus I was playing Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (on WiiU) and just as I threw the last huge turnip at the crow and hit I slipped off the platform and died during the hit animation. It was quite frustrating and nerve-wracking as I had only one life left. During the whole gameplay I was not picking much money for lifes and was often time reckless and had not many lives.

Great, one of my favorite metal acts were dropped from their label and broke up . . . because one of the main members was arrested for the DC riot.
Monday, 22-Feb-21 16:34:30 UTC from web-
@scribus Sort of sad that it happened but it's good that those riot idiots face consequences one way or another.
-
@adiwan Yeah, I'm more hoping the four members who left over it re-form or at least go on to more success than I am worrying for the one jackboot, lol. And I'm not super-surprised, because after 9/11 they took a hard Right, anyway. It's more just surreal to see happening. And I can't help thinking of Alice Cooper's take on rock in politics: "Why would you listen to US? We can't even hold down a real job!"

Well I just learned that I have a scar (somewhere on one of my knuckles) from the location of the first-ever episode of Bar Rescue. Which was closed after a stabbing murder. And then burned down. And is still a pile of fenced-off rubble 3 years later.
Sunday, 21-Feb-21 02:49:19 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation Oof.

@adiwan It's even less than that! It may play out like something something seedy joint, blablabla bar brawl, but I was just too damn drunk to play pool and hit the damn table with my hand :-/ haha
-
@mrmattimation Yeah, that's haunted
-
-
Watched "Kill la Kill" and it was awful. Despite positive reviews my experience was not good. It contains huge and obvious plot holes. I can stretch my suspension of disbelief so far. It had some good characters in there but the plot weighted all down like an elephant on a cardboard box.
Wednesday, 17-Feb-21 17:38:15 UTC from web-
@adiwan Yeah, that one's much more about antics and story than plot. And fanservice. Like, to such a core extent one wonders if it's even "service" anymore, lol.
-
@scribus The fanservice was the least of my problems with it. The plot is so convoluted it hurts my intelligence. Sentient alien thread accelerates the evolution of humans so they can wear clothes, Then the thread is used to make super-powered magic clothes. Then the bad guys use the thread in normal clothing to enslave/transform humanity while the good guys have also thread on their bodies. Then the master plan is to engulf the earth with the magic thread so to make it pop and burst more thread into the universe. And then the whole school thing and trying to conquer other schools is also the dumbest thing in the series. Where is the military? Where are state officials? It's certainly concerning when there are huge military-grade fights all over the country without any consequences. My suspension of disbelief can handle only a limited amount of BS before it turns against the piece of fiction.

Crushed two linear bearings until the balls popped out. I should have used less force and made the hole a teeny tiny bit bigger.
Saturday, 13-Feb-21 18:10:10 UTC from web-
@adiwan that sounds dirty and painful outside of contact
-
@ndogmario I just printed a holder for a Dremel rotary tool for my CNC machine. It needs some linear bearings (with steel balls to glide on) and there are holes that fit them. Due to inaccuracies the hole is too small for a pressure fit. I used a drill to carve it a little bit bigger, however I missed some spots. While forcing the bearings with a vise the bearing was compressed within the hole. The tolerances within the bearing are soo tight that this little bit of difference in the radius made a ball pop out.
-
@adiwan Sounds a different kind of painful in context
-
-
I'm afraid that "Coming 2 America" will suck. The first film is my all-time classic feel good movie. The trailers don't bode well.

Friday, 05-Feb-21 16:21:03 UTC from web-
@scribus And I bought all the parts for repairing my rear window wipers. The car has a completely full tank. Luckily there aren`t any expensive or personal objects in there. I have contacted my insurance and I was at the police. I hope I get a good cash out for the car to buy a new used one.
-
@adiwan oh, I totally misread that, too. I had somehow construed it to mean that both were, collectively, a single square on the card... haha
-
@scribus I guess it's an eldrich and cursed Bingo card that slowly merges all squares into one.
