  3. On the night from Thursday to Friday I had to call the police because a drunk person with an empty vodka bottle slept and snored on the staircase about next to my apartment. Probably one of my hate neighbours acquaintances. Then the next two days were extremely noisy and I had to call the police 3 times. In the span of the 3 days I was awake for 44 hours straight.

  8. Also the general inevitability of suicide attempt, or accident, or close call is pretty off-putting. Less terrifying on a bus than a train, easier to stop, able to swerve... like that time I almost ran over a doofus on a skateboard in all black with the hoodie up at night - WHEN THERE WAS A BIKE LANE they coulda been in!! ugh, people sometimes....

    • @scribus Just happened to me. I poured steaming hot tea into my mug and didn't put a thought into waiting for it to cool down for a short while. But other to the actual case of that happening it's a great idea for using it as a metaphor for various things. Your interpretation fits it well. It can also applied to saying things that are potentially false or need more time to be sure they are not.

    • @scribus Pizza was also a problem for me. Thankfully I haven't burnt myself with pizza (and its cheese) for a long time. Those burns last for days. Whenever I make or buy pizza I am paying attention to the amount of fat and cheese it has, which are always the culprit. So in the case of making pizza myself I cover the pizza lightly with cheese that that there is not a thick layer that can keep the molten lava hot long after it's out of the oven. I like thin and crispy pizzas anyway. The more cheese and fat the soggier they are and the harder the slices are to handle and eat. I bake my pizzas such that the bread is stiff enough the pizza (slice) can hold up itself.

  14. Watched this documentary on "deep time" and human history last night. It was all like, "Columbus set sail because 5 billion years ago a planetoid hit proto-Earth, causing the axial tilt which resulted in the weather patterns which led to spices growing in India. Meanwhile, the Portuguese got rich off of a dying star 7 billion years ago, which resulted in a silver deposit in modern-day Mexico..."

  20. I was viewing a house for purchase but as I stepped in it was worse and worse the further it got. The seller wanted almost 300000€ but the stuff to repair and renovate can be summed up to 100000€ with ease. It looked OK fine from the outside but inside the house showed every bit of horror. The rooms have cracks in the wall. The cellar reeks of oil and had water damage (apparently fixed but I don't believe it's over). The windows are leaky. The thermal isolation has to be improved all around. It needs a new heater in 10 years.
