Just a notice that the forums are (finally) back up after the hosting change. Still a subdomain problem so they're only accessible by "www.forums.rainbowdash.com" currently. We're trying to fix that, and should be done within the day.

@MrDragon I've got dinner, so I can't do anything. Can you try restoring the backup that's in the home directory? We can take it from there.

Updated !rdnrefresh to reflect the addition of a forums link at the top of the page. Username highlighting will once again work. No other changes, I haven't had the time to really look at Firefox 5 handling or to compress the menu.

@musicssound pony pony pony. It keeps things handy. I'm still trying to update a few things for compatibility sake, but I'll do what I can.
-
@miloth xD - you should hide the link with some userstyles :P
-
@haganbmj ah, never thought to do that, thanks.
-
-
@greydragon412 @starshine The forums are there for the people who want them. I prefer them, since it's easier to find your chat history, but to each is their own.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 22:31:45 UTC from web-
@ixfocus I have nothing against some forum existing. I don't see why it needs to be linked from here, and so prominently at that.
-
-
Well, I'm not giving up the forum to be hosted on this site under a different name. I'll gladly have a redirect, but that's as far as it'll go. Sorry, PurpleTinker.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 20:50:34 UTC from web -
Found it! A pain going back 8 pages on a slow connection. @ixfocus is the admin for rainbowdash.com which does not compete with rainbowdash.net
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 19:15:43 UTC from web -
@ixfocus Just zip it over. Copy the main page, don't need the forum part. Use megaupload, or some sort of free upload site.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 17:28:12 UTC from web-
@musicssound It's 20% cooler than any other one. :P
-
@ixfocus That's what I was looking for. Stop being so logical! You'll never get Pinkie Pie fans that way! Oh, and the banner code is designed for really wide screens. Is that intentional?
-
@musicssound No :/ I've had that problem ever since I've started coding and I have no clue how to fix it. And I guessed that's what you were driving at. ^^ I've just been working on this thing all day and it really eats away at your brain.
-
-
@ixfocus Forgot, I had the site cached. Good old Ctrl+F5 fixed it all.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 17:43:22 UTC from web-
@mrdragon Hehe, I had the same problem earlier. Now to work out how to change the favicon, which is being persistent. And also to wait for replies from the owners of this site and EqD.
-
-
@ixfocus Hey Focus, could you send me over your front site? I am not the best at GFX, however I can create you a basic working site for that front page if you want me to.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 17:25:09 UTC from web-
@mrdragon How'd you want me to send it over? Sorry for slow replies, I'm still sorting out all the permissions and stuff on the forum.
-
-
@greydragon412 I asked the guy who runs EqD if he can give it a boost. I still need to find out who runs this site.

@captlynch Gee I wonder

@orbitalfriendshipcannon hmm...there...should work now...I added a laser too...CAUSE EVERYTHINGS BETTER WITH LASERS
-
-
@greydragon412 Hehe, thanks. Still needs lots of work. And some form of advertising to get bronies to the forum. It's about time we had one.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 17:08:40 UTC from web-
I wish I was better at GFx and website coding. At least rainbowdash.com is up as a forum and working as one, even if it doesn't look the best.
-
-
@ixfocus It's not the coding. It's the server based backend setup which it comes with. Trying to setup something that's coded in ruby to get it working on a site, is quite hard to say the least. Compaired to sql and tables, I have to work with rubygems first and make sure the needed gems are installed. Then SSH and make sure that the install sheets are there are avaliable, if not then I need to find out why (BIG BIG PAIN). Then I have to make sure it all works on rails. Then I still have the SQL and Tables to get done. Sure Ruby allows for a much wider range of interactions, but it's still a right pain to do.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 13:47:41 UTC from web -
@ixfocus Ah, well wait till you have to work with Rubyonrails, SSH and Rubygems. Pain. In. The. Rear. I am still trying to get around it all at this time. Getting there, but a little more difficult then the rest of te stuff I learnt.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 13:40:36 UTC from web-
@mrdragon I had a look at Ruby coding a while back. It seemed... Easier than some, to say the least.

@ixfocus just name it localhost, if your mysqldatabase is on the same server as your site itself, then localhost should do fine. @communistprime The Women all get picked on over here, sexist jokes you name it.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 13:03:52 UTC from web -
@communistprime Well the only + about being in the British army is that about 90% of the true UK population (That's not including all these imigrants) Adore and love their army, and would do ANYTHING to help them. So when you went out to get drunk, everyone who knew the army was your friend. Kids look upto you as well, hell kids adore it all.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 12:43:57 UTC from web-
@mrdragon I've never had a bad experience with civilians since I've been in the Army. In fact, everyone I've talked to has love us. My friends from basic have had some bad times though...name calling and all sorts of stuff for no reason.
-
@scarcity Oh yeah, things were definitely harder for the males in our basic. It's kind of annoying, both for females who want to be treated more like the males, and for the males who get all mad (we all did) that the females had lower standards and were (usually) punished less.
-
@mrdragon I've got my database, I'm at the installation part but I need my DSN which I can't find. It's the path to the database.
-
-
@ixfocus Ok, what you want to do is download this for the latest phpBB. http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/olympus.php (Full package) Then I would read through this, http://www.phpbb.com/support/documents.php?mode=install&version=3 it will give you the run through on installing it. I recommend placing the files into a subfolder called forum that way you don't clutter up your site to much in case you one day want a front page. If you need any help just explain to me in detail the point you are at and I will do what I can.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 12:30:58 UTC from web-
@mrdragon Okay, thanks a lot. I'll do that now.
-
-
@ixfocus I am back, and yeah I will agre phpBB is a good one to go for. It can be a little complicated with it's backend admin system at times, setting people with user groups and so on. But it's all good never the less, something else you may be interested in is this. http://testing.dragondomain.org.uk/cmine/ It's a Photo and media storage gallery, so say you have your site and it's forum but want somewhere you users can store pics and such. They can create a acount on your Coppermine installation and create albums and what not to share, and seeing as it's on your site you decide on the rullings of it.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 12:18:28 UTC from web-
@mrdragon Okay, makes sense. So how'd I go about making and developing the forum? Since the banner, background and everything should be changed to fit the theme.
-
@ixfocus Well first thing would be for you to get it on your site, you do have access to the mysql database and phpmyadmin?
-
@mrdragon I just checked. Yes, I do.
-
-
@communistprime How are you, anyway?
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 12:08:43 UTC from TTYtter-
@communistprime I was just looking up what intelligence analysis actually entails, and all I can say is: you are a braver man than I sir. Which army are you with? US?
-
@ceruleanspark Yep, that's me. US Army, chillin' (not really) in Afghanistan at this time.
-
@communistprime Ohhh, wow, that's fantastic! Way to go! :)
-
-
I shall brb soon, hold all questions in contempt of court.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 11:50:35 UTC from web-
@mrdragon Alright. I should get lunch at some point. The PhpBB one looks a bit better to be honest. It'd be good to use that. I think the site should just have the forum and webmail. I'll take everything else on there out, since it was just to test what I'd learned about HTML.
-
-
@ixfocus Gimme a minute here and letme just get something up and running.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 11:44:28 UTC from web-
@communistprime @mrdragon Thanks. And yeah, I'm trying to change rainbowdash.com into a forum.
-
@ixfocus Ooooh, cool. I'm bad at forums, like I said, or else I'd help out. Sorry!
-
@ixfocus http://testing.dragondomain.org.uk/smf/ | http://testing.dragondomain.org.uk/phpbb/ Two test sites I have of both forums setup. User:admin pass:test321 go play around and what not see what you think of each setup.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 11:48:23 UTC from web -
@ixfocus Do you want help setting up that forum? They are not hard to do, I could walk you through it.
Tuesday, 26-Jul-11 11:38:40 UTC from web-
@mrdragon Any help at all would be appreciated. I'll probably need some help with CSS, since the whole thing is a bit laggy and slow to load as it is.
-
@ixfocus What type of fourm are you looking for? Something simple and just get up and go? Or one that is a little bit more complicated but more streamline? SMF is the getup and go, it also has great mod support and phpBB is the more complicated yet more streamline.
-
@mrdragon Well, probably something more streamline. Since we have a news site and a twitter-like site in the MLP fan base, it makes sense to have a proper forum. So, SMF, I'm guessing.
-
-
So, heh, funny thing... I own the www.rainbowdash.com domain name. I got it back in November. I've only just started learning HTML as you can see from the site as it is now, it's very basic. I'm hoping to get help or pass it on to somepony who can help turn it into a brony site.
