So, I think I finally understand why the images of Twilight's cutie mark from "Magical Mystery Cure" have six stars instead of just five. Twilight's addition to Starswirl's spell goes like this- "From all of us together, together we are friends. With the marks of our destinies made one there is magic without end." Before, Twilight's cutie mark represented the six elements of harmony, with magic being the most important. Now, the six white stars represent all of them, and the middle purple star equates to their unity, and the power behind it ("it" here may be read as Twilight's transformation).
