              1. @pony Man, even I as a mortal man with no special abilities could take on yellow pone. I don't dislike her just because I don't dig her personality. I dislike her because she's the only character of the main cast to willingly go against friendship. She only has friends because the rest of the mane 6 have incredible patience and pity.

                2. @nerthos She's also the only one of the mane 6 that didn't fall for his tricks. Plus, she fully repented after the Iron Will incident. Everypony makes mistakes, but not everypony grows the way she did from it. http://ur1.ca/ck2vx

                  3. @pony She grows negatively. She's literally a resource made character so the authors can teach kids "You must treat people with mental diseases well, even if they're complete jerks/idiots because they can't help it" If not because the other characters forgive her everything, she would already be dead.

                            1. @nerthos you could probably make it sound a lot less dubious if you called it "empowering others and teaching them to lead."

Friday, 18-Jan-13 07:13:22 UTC from web
                              1. @pony But that is not what I do. Teaching to lead is what politics courses and officer academies do. I don't do that. I work so that people who deserve can do with others, less worthy, whatever they please, at the same time giving them strict moral codes tied to their knowledge. It's basically setting the bases of a meritocracy.

                                1. @crusader8 No, I teach others to manipulate themselves. Once that's done manipulating others is child's play.

                                  1. @nerthos if what you give or show them ultimately enables them to manipulate others in a way they could not do as well and/or as easily before, then you taught them how to manipulate others. You're all proud of yourself for perpetuating cowardly degressive behavior while missing the bigger picture entirely.

Friday, 18-Jan-13 07:24:03 UTC from web
                                    1. @crusader8 Cowardly behavior? Missing the picture? I give tools to people, along with the instructions to those tools. They can't use those tools against me because I know all too well how they work. Those people are deserving of that knowledge. What they do with it is their bussiness. Since the method is based in honesty it can't be used to screw people unless the "victims" are idiots, in which case they're screwed either way.

                                        1. @pony Oh, it totally is. I care about justice and that's it. And most people are in some degree guilty and or accomplices of injustice. Those who mostly aren't get the nice toys, since if they did the right thing without knowing there was a reward, they're therefore entitled to it.

Friday, 18-Jan-13 07:43:54 UTC from web
                                                  1. @pony What is the line between work and fun?

                                                    1. @nerthos So you don't come here to play mind games, but you still like to test people? If you're looking for people to take under your wing, I find it difficult to take your efforts seriously when you openly admit to promoting a meritocracy and not caring about the "inferior," and I'm sure I'm not the only one. If, on the other hand, you're not interested in finding disciples or whatever then why test us?

Friday, 18-Jan-13 07:51:40 UTC from web
                                                      1. @pony It's not testing with an actual objective, but testing as to understand other's personalities deeper. I see nothing wrong with a meritocracy. It basically means that your place in the piramid will be determined by your own effort and abilities and not by others. It's the most fair way to structure society. Why would I teach to someone who's opposed to that?

Friday, 18-Jan-13 07:55:55 UTC from web
                                                        1. @nerthos you certainly wouldn't teach it to someone who doesn't agree. Meritocracy, or any pyramid-like system, however comes across as oppressive to the ones on the bottom.

Friday, 18-Jan-13 08:05:55 UTC from web
                                                          1. @pony The only way to be at the bottom of a meritocracy is to simply suck. It's even more unfair to force those who work hard to get up in the pyramid to work for both themselves and those who are useless and end at the bottom, than to just let them rot on their own lack of motivation. The system is made with one objective in mind: to let society filter itself. Anyone who cares about himself and/or society will ascend at least to the mid tiers. YOU decide where you are placed, not other person or the system. There's simply nothing more close to the meaning of fair and just than that.

Friday, 18-Jan-13 08:12:20 UTC from web
                                                            1. @nerthos I believe that, ideally, society should be a reverse pyramid where the elite serve, support, and guide the highly qualified who in turn support the less qualified, etc, with the most helpless of individuals being supported by everybody's efforts combined including their own, inasmuch as they're capable.

Friday, 18-Jan-13 08:20:28 UTC from web
                                                              1. @pony Such a society goes nowhere. The point of it is to basically aim the efforts of the best humanity has to offer into just keeping the worst alive. That's utterly stupid. And in a practical sense, human nature dictates that most would feign inability to have an easier time. A society like that would literally kill humanity. You said it yourself. A reverse pyramid. In reality, such an structure is impossible to hold unless the tip of the piramid is of divine nature. And you cannot possibly expect a god to work for a bunch of lazy guys.

Friday, 18-Jan-13 08:27:01 UTC from web
                                                                1. @nerthos >such an structure is impossible to hold unless the tip of the piramid is of divine nature. -- yup. Ideally this would be the case, but as it is, too few wish to rely on God for this to work properly. (In other words, yes, among other things, some people are too lazy.) I like the values inherent in such a model, namely serving others rather than self. A true pyramid system spells out oppression, while the opposite is true of a reverse pyramid (except as it oppresses God, but he takes such a role voluntarily).

Friday, 18-Jan-13 08:48:25 UTC from web

But really this is me being flippant and irreverent and is not meant to contribute in any serious way to your discussion.

Friday, 18-Jan-13 08:50:49 UTC from web

And it would be utterly unfair, and even evil, to force the responsibility of shouldering humanity upon those who are born with an above average level of ability and intellect. It's like saying "Oh hey, you have a gift! So we'll just let you do all the work because you're better" In a true meritocracy there's no opression, whereas in this model you present, the opression is upon those better than the rest.

Friday, 18-Jan-13 08:53:38 UTC from web
