  6. @razzleberryhedgehog We all have our priorities. I've gotten people I know hooked on Undertale both through genuine analysis and through goofy memes and in-jokes. I'm generally better at and prefer the former, but it's easy to see how so many people would be more drawn by the latter.

  7. @razzleberryhedgehog Balancing clever and topical seems to come pretty naturally to Gherkin. He's definitely among the wittiest users on the site.

  19. @razzleberryhedgehog I gotcha. I think the bottom line is we can both really appreciate and enjoy well crafted action films.

  20. @razzleberryhedgehog I too genuinely enjoy any movie I think is well done (if it wasn't implied, I had a ton of fun watching Ghost Protocol) but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have specific stylistic and narrative biases that I tend to lean towards.

  21. @razzleberryhedgehog Definitely, it can be easy to appreciate a great story in film but I think it's also easy to take for granted how difficult it is to construct a great action film.

  22. @razzleberryhedgehog I think that while I still use the "popcorn" moniker I consider the actual concept of popcorn media to be a sort of spectrum. A film can still, at its core, be a popcorn flick driven by Stuff Happening, but it can also simultaneously be really smartly written (see: District 9). Lots of action flicks aren't my personal go-to for films I tend to be interested in, but it's undeniable that it still takes incredibly strong filmmaking craft to really effectively create a strong action film.

  24. @razzleberryhedgehog In that case yeah, Rogue Nation was my favourite popcorn flick I saw this year. Not my favourite MI film but still generally a well constructed film.

  25. @razzleberryhedgehog Yeah, I'd agree with that (assuming, of course, that Fury Road and The Force Awakens aren't being considered popcorn flicks here)
