#totw Whoops. Sorry for the previous one. Anyway, for Winter Wrap Up, it was probably natural for them to clear up winter for them since spring is unable to melt all snow completely in time for its season. As for Nightmare Night, the tradition probably began after Luna was banished to the moon and the ponies believed that giving candy to the statue would allow Nightmare Moon to feed on them, thus appeasing her hunger, as Zecora had said in the NN episode. After that, I guess they just gave whatever candy that remained to the kids and that's how the rest of the tradition began.

#totw During winter wrap up the earth ponies were afraid the sky hated them and ran from the falling hell flakes from above. The Pegasus saw this and face hooved, they then cleared the clouds and melted it all. however due to the sudden change in temperature the water flooded all of the animal homes and cause massive chaos pleasing discord greatly. The next year after counseling the earth pony no longer feared the snow and worked with the pegasi in clearing it away every season. As for night mare night that's another story for another time my little filly's and bucks. *nods sagely with eyes closed in recollection*

#totw Nightmare Night was something to scare the little children to make them behave and to have fun on that night also and give away there candy so they don't go crazy because they have a sugar high. #totw Winter Wrap up started with the confusion and mishandling of a "wrapped up" gift of a bunch of winter snow clouds from the Pegasus to the Earth ponies and the clean up that followed. Nightmare night was actually based of a series of foal-nappings that went on by Zebras who would, using evil Zebra magic, take on the form of Nightmare moon and snatch up colts and fillies to take them away and through using evil zebra science melt them down into a plastic like compound and mold them into figurines to be sold in an alternate dimension to strange beings. Neither of these are related to the Apple Family. Pies

#totw Winter Wrap Up was a tradition of bringing in spring without using magic, which makes sense for an old EP family like the Smiths (later, the Apples). Nightmare Night seems like something that might have begun as a campfire story, or something to frighten unruly children.

In order to make ends meet, they had to get food from others. So they dressed up and scared candy out of from local settlers. Thus, Nightmare Night was born.
