I guess it's mostly the timing this time around, like I said jokingly - why aren't they going the other way? And thank you for a very lucid and informative answer to my offhanded snark. It actually does strike me as quite noble that the people would step up to fix things instead of walking away. In honesty, I suppose I'm envious. Maybe I was promised the stars, and maybe I never should have gotten hopes up, but after everything I was raised as a child to believe America was and offered turned out to be a lie, a myth, or no longer available, well... I'm just a bitter husk these days. No family of my own, no home of my own, and yet I've worked dutifully since I was 17, I took on my five figure school debt, I played by all the rules and they Potato Knishesed me for it. If they also about how the Catholics got radicalized into a new Crusades, well... I'm still probably not a typical case. I don't know

@scribus With that being said: Politics in Puerto Rico are very weird. They don't abide by the same two-party system we do, they have three major political parties and none of them are really equivalent to any of ours, so if they had electoral power it would be very hard to predict whether they would be a blue or red state. As Puerto Rico's population is actually larger than about half of the mainland states, and therefore they would have more representation then some states, politicians across party lines are sort of iffy about the whole thing.
