  2. Hey, if you have HBO Max or access to a cable subscription: I have some friends who worked on Smiling Friends, [adult swim]’s new animated horror comedy. The sixth episode features a Bakshi-inspired character who was animated by some friends of mine, but the whole show in general is very funny. The show hits HBO Max on Feb 9th, and if you have cable, you can watch the entire series on adultswin.com right now. If you could give it a watch, that’d be real cool, because we really wanna see a second season get greenlit and online viewership is pretty much how they decide what gets renewed these days.

  4. https://youtu.be/6JTTIeYqDYM quick & dirty solution to doing lipsync at profile view without having to recolor the otherwise stationary head every single frame. Learned this trick from a guy who works on Teen Titans Go. There’s basically a mask over the head which renders any piece of the face obscured by the mouth layer invisible, so you can see through to the other side when the character opens their mouth.

  10. The writers apparently felt killing off Agnes Skinner would’ve been too upsetting but given the episode’s darker nature (and gorier - one of Fat Tony’s goons gets shot in the eyeball) I think it would’ve fit. http://rainbowdash.net/url/876032

  14. here's the non-PBR CGI strat - use a textured outline and intentionally allow the program to make mistakes when generating outlines so that the image looks like it was hastily inked by an artist on a deadline\ http://rainbowdash.net/url/876021

  16. @scribus I made a video about this last year, but the basic gist of it was that John K. was fired so early into the show’s initial run that it kind of wasn’t even his show anymore by the time the original series ended, so I personally don’t think R&S should necessarily carry his baggage, especially since we don’t really apply that same standard to more recent works with creators who were disgraced for similar reasons (The Loud House got a movie this year, even). https://youtu.be/1bVrf7n_Yek

  22. ...and i think the results are pretty good, it definitely flattens things out a lot, and i manage to get the program to generate new outlines on the fly based on an algorithm and where the camera is looking, just wish i could get it to tile along a random spot so that parallel lines don't look so uniform http://rainbowdash.net/url/875929

  23. a few months ago i realized that what the toon shader was REALLY missing was a way to accurately imitate a cheaply inked background that's been painted onto a cel by a Korean child, so i drew this 2160 x 2160 texture that i thought would maybe look like a scratchy black ink line, when tiled and repeated over a great distance... http://rainbowdash.net/url/875928

  30. @scribus Only tangentially related, but i was always a big fan of this video by Lyle Wrath & Chris O'Neill which basically subverts YouTube "savior" culture where wealthy YouTubers will make a huge deal about it when they donate to charity or whatever. http://rainbowdash.net/url/875874
