  1. Woo. Briefly found the upper edge of what my computron can handle. It was scary.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:10:38 UTC from web
    1. @scribus What did you do?

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:11:37 UTC from web
      1. @nerthos Music playing, two web browsers with eight tabs between them (one connected to TOR network), three virtual machines, an IM program. . . I think it was the third VM that put it over, started taking almost all of my RAM.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:13:42 UTC from web
        1. @scribus I always have ~25 tabs on chrome, music, MSN, Skype, Steam, hamachi, firewall, antivirus, and one or two games running xD

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:16:02 UTC from web
          1. @nerthos >MSN, Skype, Steam -> Why do you have those in multiple tabs? If you don't want to use a special messenger program just use imo.im and you can have those three in one tab

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:17:32 UTC from Choqok
            1. @omni Cause each of them has features special to them. I hate "multiple messenger" services so freaking much. >_<

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:18:22 UTC from web
              1. @minti Amen to that.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:19:47 UTC from web
              2. @minti Which "special features" do you miss then? I personally don't miss any features special to those clients that are worth keeping in those multiprotocol clients. Then again, I prefer to keep things simple, I don't even have file transfer support built into my strange client.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:23:40 UTC from Choqok
                1. @omni Well for MSN, file transfers. Everything else I've tried never worked, also I have Plus! and I LOVE making scripts. Skype.. editing previous messages, quoteing people, deleting messages ,etc.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:24:44 UTC from web
                  1. @minti File transfer is included in pretty much any decent multiprotocol client, even Pidgin. Messenger Plus, true, that's not there. And stuff like editing and deleting messages, guess it's nice if you actually use it, but I generally only see people using it to troll. But okay, if you need those features that much then that's your choice.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:26:51 UTC from Choqok
            2. @omni But I don't have them on tabs. I have the three programs running. And it's not even 4% of the PC's resources.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:18:39 UTC from web
              1. @nerthos .. and I have MSN, Skep and chrome with 2 tabs and my computers lagging. Bawwllsss. :(

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:19:40 UTC from web
                1. @minti How the hell did I typo Skype as Skep

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:19:51 UTC from web
                  1. @minti Maybe Spiek?

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:20:50 UTC from web
                2. @minti May I ask you to add me on MSN?

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:20:25 UTC from web
                  1. @nerthos I would but I only use MSN to talk to really close IRL friends. Skype is fine though: tylian0 xD

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:21:16 UTC from web
                    1. @minti As you like, added xD I barely use Skype, even if I always have it running.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:24:19 UTC from web
              2. @nerthos Why would you run three programs for that? Just use a multiprotocol client. You can use one program to talk to all your contacts on those different protocols. Much nicer to use than multiple single-protocol clients.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:20:45 UTC from Choqok
                1. @omni For the same reason I don't like updating, and am currently using a forced v14 MSN offline installation. I use programs whose interface I like. A multiprotocol program kills that, and forces an ugly interface on you.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:22:54 UTC from web
                  1. @nerthos How does a multiprotocol client forces an ugly interface on you when you're allowed to theme those? Proprietary clients generally don't allow theming and such and therefore are much more likely to force an ugly interface you don't like onto you (for example: Windows Live Messenger and Skype)

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:24:54 UTC from Choqok
                    1. @omni The thing is, I like WLM14's and Skype's interfaces xD And I don't have the time nor the inclination to spend a week recreating their interfaces on a multiprotocol client when I can simply install them.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:26:30 UTC from web
                      1. @nerthos A week? Geez, you people are so strange. Am I the only one that tweaks stuff in a matter of minutes on his system? Everyone is always talking about days, weeks, even months.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:28:23 UTC from Choqok
                        1. @omni If you're talking about some colours, background, etc, it's simple. But I'm talçking about a complete overhaul to resemble a completely different program.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:29:39 UTC from web
                          1. @nerthos Well, okay, guess we both have a completely different idea of a "nice interface", I find the MSN interface truly bloated (and the clients terribly slow as well, but that's another issue)

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:32:10 UTC from Choqok
                            1. @omni MSN's interface is crap.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:33:15 UTC from web
                              1. @minti @minti Well, okay, I will agree there: both MSN and Pidgin's user interface are equally awful imho :P

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:34:59 UTC from Choqok
                                1. @omni Haha yeaah. XD

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:35:11 UTC from web
                            2. @omni I checked with more than one computer and across several miles, and it's not slow to me.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:35:03 UTC from web
                              1. @nerthos Bitlbee (the messenger I use on Linux) uses so little CPU and RAM it gets rounded to 0% both. Skype uses 1% CPU and 0.8% RAM, even on Linux and MSN always used 3-5% CPU, with spikes up to ~15% on my Windows system. I can use that power way more efficiently for other tasks that actually need it.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:38:04 UTC from Choqok
                                1. @omni MSN Uses 0% CPU to 5% for me. Skype uses waayy to much memory though. XD

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:39:01 UTC from web
                                2. @omni MSN wasn't a problem for performance even at my Sempron 2800. With a Phenom 1100t, why would I even care how much CPU it uses?

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:39:57 UTC from web
                                  1. @nerthos You would care because if you, like me, switched to a minimal destop environment taking less system power you can really feel that even on "strong" systems you can lose at least half of the startup time of most software. Once you feel the speed you can't stop optimizing. At least, I can't.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:41:43 UTC from Choqok
                                    1. @omni I have way more speed than I need. I can't even make this thing go faster without switching OS. And it starts up in <1 minute. If I start the PC once or twice a day, why would I need a faster startup?

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:44:48 UTC from web
                    2. @omni I also tweak the crap out of the interfaces to be minimalistic. Like so: http://i.tylian.net/eSUgzA.png

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:27:46 UTC from web
          2. @nerthos I think the real problem is that the VMs have a set amount of RAM dedicated to them, and throwing all three open took damn near all of it regardless of what they were doing. So it mattered less what was actually being done, the VMs were invasive enough just by existing.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:17:33 UTC from web
            1. @scribus Yup. That's an easy way to kill a machine.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:19:05 UTC from web
    2. @greydragon412 I sure as hell don't like those interfaces. I prefer this: http://is.gd/Lt4vGV

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:27:42 UTC from Choqok
      1. @omni Lol I tried Pidgin awhile ago. It really does not like file transfers over MSN. XD

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:29:54 UTC from web
        1. @minti When was "a while ago"? On which Operating System? And were you completely up-to-date? Microsoft changed their MSN protocol some months ago and broke compatibility with other clients (as they do more often on purpose)

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:31:14 UTC from Choqok
          1. @omni About a year ago. I still hate pidgins interface though. xD

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:31:37 UTC from web
    3. @greydragon412 >layout that doesn't interfere with what you're doing -> IT HAS SO MUCH USELESS BUTTONS THAT ARE IN MY WAY AND TAKING UP SPACE THAT CAN BE USED FOR THE CHATTING INSTEAD

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:30:03 UTC from Choqok
      1. @omni Why do you need a full screen of text? Humans can't even read that fast.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:32:38 UTC from web
        1. @nerthos To have a good overview of what has been said without having to scroll back for a long time.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:34:28 UTC from Choqok
          1. @omni Oh well, I usually keep up with conversations, and I have a good memory for words, so it's not a problem to me.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:36:01 UTC from web
    4. @greydragon412 @minti @omni I like how mine looks. http://ur1.ca/8oc2w

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:31:36 UTC from web
      1. @nerthos Why is your MSN full screen! Aaaugh! xD

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:32:12 UTC from web
        1. @minti I use chat windows, but the main interface always full screen.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:33:33 UTC from web
          1. @nerthos Drives me nuts. xD http://i.tylian.net/yVGxnV.png

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:34:25 UTC from web
    5. @greydragon412 THIS MUCH: http://minus.com/mbnwPkUnjr#1f

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:33:24 UTC from Choqok
      1. @omni So much stuff on screen at the same time...

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:38:38 UTC from web
        1. @nerthos I know! It is at least 20% more efficient than anything I've used before!

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:40:22 UTC from Choqok
          1. @omni I couldn't use something like that. Always clicking from one text field to another, and so many things on screen... Vanilla RDN and MSN are way better for me xD

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:41:37 UTC from web
            1. @nerthos Clicking? Puh. Focus-on-mouse-over is my settings. Also 20% more efficient than clicking all the time.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:42:22 UTC from Choqok
              1. @omni Sounds so obnouxious...

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:45:13 UTC from web
                1. @nerthos I thought so as well, but once you get used to it it feels much more logical. Just hover over the chat program in which you want to reply and start typing. No need to click on the input box.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:48:51 UTC from Choqok
                  1. @omni I don't get used to things. I force things to work for my tastes.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:52:11 UTC from web
    6. @greydragon412 Why does it? It's incredibly efficient to me.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:35:30 UTC from Choqok
    7. @greydragon412 How bizarre, I find this as uncluttered as it can get. There is pretty much only information on the screen, no useless buttons I don't need, not even window borders.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:39:53 UTC from Choqok
    8. @greydragon412 Amen.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:41:51 UTC from web
    9. @greydragon412 If I want rest I'll switch to another virtual desktop. Desktop # and # are unused at times, so I can look at a picture of my owner on my desktop background.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:43:18 UTC from Choqok
      1. @omni I love Linux's desktop switching. All the implementations for it in windows are hackish, drives me nuts.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:46:54 UTC from web
    10. @greydragon412 I have only one, and it's more than enough.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:47:25 UTC from web
    11. @greydragon412 Desktop #: Browser, #: Chat, #: Mail, # - 7: Whatever I feel like, #: Download Manager, # Music player. With one keypress I switch between those. For example, Meta4+2 (Meta4 = Windows key) instantly shows me all my open chat applications, while Meta4+1 shows me just my browser. It is quite simple and quite seperate.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:47:57 UTC from Choqok
    12. @greydragon412 Look guys! I've found someone who would actually enjoy using Windows 8! o,o

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:49:16 UTC from Choqok
      1. @omni Now that's just rude.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:50:46 UTC from StatusNet Android
        1. @redenchilada @greydragon412 Windows 8 is based on having one program open full-screen at once. Seeing as that's the way greydragon412 seems to prefer to use his desktop, it seems that it would actually be a nice Operating System for him. That's not meant rude, even if I may have sounded that way.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:52:55 UTC from Choqok
      2. @omni I'm using it right now and really enjoying it, thanks :c

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:51:34 UTC from web
    13. @greydragon412 Trust me when I say, it's actually really nice and worth it. xD

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 21:49:42 UTC from web
    14. @greydragon412 I need to change background, that Alduin one was there for far too long.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 22:10:13 UTC from web
        1. @nerthos 1960x1080 ftw

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 22:11:03 UTC from web
          1. @minti You need like, a 35" monitor to fit that. Also, 16:9 eeew.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 22:11:57 UTC from web
            1. @nerthos 16:9 is amazing. :(

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 22:12:18 UTC from web
              1. @minti 16:9 is a waste of space. Just compare the screen surface of a 21" monitor, 4:3 and 16:9.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 22:13:38 UTC from web
                1. @nerthos It's not a waste of space when you can fit the entire 1080p pony video on your screen without having to resize it! :D

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 22:15:22 UTC from web
                  1. @minti It is when compared to a same size 4:3. In it you can fit the video, the player interface, and a chat window.

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 22:16:23 UTC from web
                    1. @nerthos The screen must be like HUGE then. Cause normally I can fit stuff off to the side. (1080p is 1960x1080) xD

Thursday, 15-Mar-12 22:17:53 UTC from web
                      1. @minti Yeah, I know. But, think of a 25" 4:3. That's huge.

                        1. @nerthos Ehh. I wish I knew the size of the TV I'm using right now. xD I think it's 18"

                          1. @minti I don't need more than 21". It's not like I'm going to watch it from two rooms away.
