  2. @metaltao Any typographical feature can be used to distinguish As from Bs. You might choose to make your As italicized instead of capitalized, even.

  3. @metaltao After a while, one might get faster at decoding this, even without a cheat sheet. Then the real fun would begin.

  4. @metaltao Everything is fine. Did you look at the Wikipedia page I sent?

Monday, 28-Jul-14 06:52:52 UTC from bti in context
  5. @redenchilada You would only get 8 different shorthand words, unfortunately!

  6. @redenchilada Wouldn't be a waste. Would be totally fun. The cipher has a great property: No coded letters start with BB. One could use BB--- sequences as predefined shorthand for certain words, like 'the', 'and', and 'with'.

  7. @redenchilada So, hypothetically, would it still break site rules if someone roleplayed by disguising their roleplay behind messages that are relevant, using this cipher?

  8. @metaltao Decode everything, but decode each capital as an A and each lowercase as a B. Then translate that using the cipher. AABBB would be 'h', for example

  9. @metaltao That says 'apply'. Now, the trick is to replace each A with a capital letter and each B with a lowercase letter. Make it read as though it says something else, when the real message is hidden in which letters are capitalized.

  10. @metaltao The message you just sent me would be decoded as 'q' followed by three copies of a letter that doesn't exist.

  12. @metaltao Ah. When my message appeared, you should have applied the 'Bacon cipher', which is different than the spoilers button.

Monday, 28-Jul-14 06:33:53 UTC from bti in context
  13. Is that happening automatically?

Monday, 28-Jul-14 06:31:45 UTC from bti in context
  14. @metaltao How strange. It is meant to be this, except with caps in places they shouldn't be: Apply the cipher on this

Monday, 28-Jul-14 06:29:27 UTC from bti in context
  15. @metaltao Is that how my message appears on your end?

  17. # A cipher one can use to encode messages into other text. One way it could work on the Network is for the 'A' and 'B' values to be represented by capital and lowercase letters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacon%27s_cipher

  18. @metaltao Thanks for going to all this trouble. It might be easier and preferable for you to get an account on DuckDuckGo with Pidgin like this, and then add me there: https://duck.co/blog/using-pidgin-with-xmpp-jabber

Monday, 28-Jul-14 05:38:05 UTC from bti in context
  19. @metaltao I will wait for your request. :-)

Monday, 28-Jul-14 05:08:44 UTC from bti in context
  20. @metaltao Try it from either the GMail web interface or a FOSS client like Pidgin or Empathy, please. I am not on Hangouts, which is not based on XMPP --- I can only accept your request from Google Talk, which is XMPP.

  21. @scribus Maybe from their account, but the friend told me they did not send it. I didn't think of them being hacked, though.

Monday, 28-Jul-14 05:03:40 UTC from bti in context
  22. @scribus I've been getting so much spam lately, I don't know how it happened. One of the letters was even signed as though it was from someone on my contact list, which is disturbing.

Monday, 28-Jul-14 05:01:53 UTC from bti in context
  23. @metaltao That address is not my e-mail address, and I wish to keep my true e-mail address hidden. Are you trying to add me via the web interface on GMail or through a desktop client?

Monday, 28-Jul-14 04:59:32 UTC from bti in context
  24. @metaltao It is no big deal --- we would be able to chat through it together, but if you don't already use it often, we can stick to RDN.

Monday, 28-Jul-14 04:37:38 UTC from bti in context
  25. @metaltao GMail should be enough to use it. Do you log in regularly?

Monday, 28-Jul-14 04:35:23 UTC from bti in context
  26. @metaltao Do you have a Google Talk account, metaltao?

  27. @zeldatra A picture of whatever this means to you: something harlequin and rich, like Princess Cadance sporting a showy jester costume.

  28. @zeldatra Oh, okay.

  29. @zeldatra Still drawing pictures tonight?
