1. So, I'mma just ask here. I constantly see people referring to themselves as a "pet" here. What does that mean?

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 07:29:30 UTC from web
1. @minti I have no idea.

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 07:34:06 UTC from web
2. @minti @omni would be able to answer that best obviously, but I'm left to understand that pets live how their owners direct them to and sometimes walk them around on leashes. I can't find any good sources right away to confirm, but i'm guessing that roleplay is often involved and may be part of the lifestyle and relationship between human pets and their human owners. I also guess there are varying degrees to which individuals choose to live as pets.

1. @pony Hm. This is what's been keeping me up, can't sleep cause suddenly my mind wants to know what kind of lifestyle that is, etc. xD

2. @pony @minti Please, ask @scribble or @cavatina instead. I mean, I don't mind answering any questions at all, but I don't think I make for a good "average" pet. I'm kinda... strange, even for something like this :P

1. @omni You seem like an awesome pet though! Just what what I know anyway. I'm actually really interested in finding a pet now. I joined a site 'n stuff. Next step will be to talk to my wife and see if she might be OK with it.

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 12:35:33 UTC from web
1. @pony Well, at very least it would be great to talk to more than just one person on something like this. Just like talking to one brony won't give you a good idea of what bronies are like, the same counts for pretty much every lifestyle or subculture. Well... What @scribble said this very minute is pretty much exactly how I feel about it as well.

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 12:38:16 UTC from web
2. @pony Well I'm still awake and I have something to say here so I'm gonna say it. Here's a very important thing to note: you should never expect complete obedience from a pet (think of cats here; if complete obedience is something you want, then there's another word for that kind of relationship). Always remember that a pet is a living creature, NOT an object. And when it comes to THIS sort of pet, they are also an intelligent creature who may well be smarter than you are. Treat them with love and respect and they in turn will give you their trust (which, as with any pet, cannot be demanded and must be earned) and only with strong bonds of trust established will you see them obey you more readily and eagerly. Bottom line being they are a *companion* who only wants to make you happy but you have an obligation to make them happy too. If this sounds like good advice for any kind of pet, that's because it is! The only difference is that different creatures need to be cared for differently.

1. @toksyuryel yes. It's all fascinating. I've owned many non-human pets before of many kinds and they've all seemed very happy. There's a lot to consider.

2. @toksyuryel So _that's_ how pets work? No wonder my family always had issues with the cat I had one time.

3. @minti I did ask omni about sexual stuff and he said there was strictly none in his relationship despite his owner being female.

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 07:36:15 UTC from web
1. @pony Sounds like something I'd be interested in, to be honest. :x Eeeh. xD

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 07:37:24 UTC from web
1. @minti it really seems like it would be a very comforting way to live, either as "pet" or "owner" just because you'd either be able to give up all control to your owner or be able to rely on your pet's companionship no matter what. I think I'd make a great owner personally.

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 07:39:17 UTC from web
1. @pony I'd love to be a pet from what I'm reading, but I don't know anyone who I trust enough and/or who would be willing. XD

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 07:40:16 UTC from web
1. @minti right. Therein lies the biggest issue. Trust. I believe I recall Omni saying he completely trusts his owner and could never do anything against her will. Omni relies very heavily on her as I understand. I suppose there are pet-owner relationships that aren't anywhere near as extreme.. I'm also guessing a trial period is warranted for any couple.

1. @pony Heh, true that. I'm kind of curious what it's like to be a pet now, it sounds wonderful. :x Anyway! I need to go to bed cause my dad just woke up, flipped out at my cat, threw her in my room, slammed my door and went back to his room so uh. I think he's mad. Night!

I hate having a dad that can be a jerk, yet be the perfect father at the same time. xD (Also I'm 20. He shouldn't even be allowed to yell at me to go to bed unless I'm keeping him up [and I'm not.]).

4. @minti Right, a pet in my terms is being given a similar form of love, care and attention to a typical pet and their owner (though obviously without the other stuff, like walking or feeding, unless the person is willing). It gives a feeling of comfort for the pet, while the owner gets a feeling similar to owning a pet.

1. @pony @scribble i asked him, he said yes. That's the easiest way to put it. xD. I was with my current fiance at the time, she owns him too~. I was just curious how he'd feel about being a pet.

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 12:50:49 UTC from web
1. @cavatina that's pretty cool. :3

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 12:52:11 UTC from web
3. @pony Well, me and my owner both were moderators at Alaplaya, a gaming portal. I was a moderator for S4 League, and she for Audition. She was generally not really liked by the other staff, mostly because she always clearly stated her opinion and tried to improve the way the staff dealt with things, and nobody really talked to her. So, after she wanted to start moderating the game I was moderating as well, I was the only one who was really helping her. We talked often and became increasingly good friends. Later, my other online relationship failed, and hers as well. My ex, whom truly believed she was a witch (and, honestly, I don't doubt that) has left some mental scars, but gave me the advice to start dating whom would later become my owner. I have no idea why I decided to do this, but I asked her to become my partner. We got closer and closer, and started telling each other more about what we liked and didn't. Eventually, she also became my owner (first only online, but later IRL too)

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 12:54:07 UTC from web
1. @omni @pony I can probably tell more later, but the 1000 character limit made me forgot what I wanted to say... Then again, due to the mental scars my ex left me, I've tried to forget a lot of things about that time, but can't recall some things I'd like to recall so easily either...

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 12:55:28 UTC from web
1. @omni thanks for sharing that! Any time you can tell more is fine. I'm thinking online would be a good way to start out. What did your online relationship involve? How did you interact?

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 13:39:34 UTC from MuSTArDroid
1. @pony I personally think starting online is better for a relationship than real-life anyway, because it doesn't make it possible to form an opinion based on looks (which you often do unconsciously) which are often really wrong. We interacted over IRC mostly, but also in-game and over MSN. I pretty much told her about the community, thought her how to use the console and... I guess that's pretty much it. If I'm understanding you correctly, I feel a bit confused x.x

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 13:43:19 UTC from web
1. @omni I see. So your online relationship didn't involve any roleplay or anything? How exactly did you behave as her pet in an online environment? Did she train you at all in any way? @cavatina @scribus was there any "training" in your relationship? I've seen that word used by some on other sites

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 13:51:01 UTC from MuSTArDroid
1. @pony I think you mis-directed that a little bit.

2. @pony Well, if I recall correctly, we did say things like "meow" often, and *cuddles* or the likes, but real roleplaying, not really all that much. Very rarely. And, being honest, I can't recall... I mean, I have had pet-like interests for a while before that, but I don't think I really behaved really pet-like to her until later... I think it took a while until I really trusted her well before I decided to ask her to become my owner. And I've had some training in how to behave, but mostly "taught" myself how to behave pet-like (even though I can't really say I taught it myself, because it pretty much just went right without really trying or learning much...)

1. @pony I guess you'll have to explain it clearly though, and watch out a bit with choosing a pet. You don't want to choose one which wants a real relationship beyond being a pet and having to break his/her heart =/

Thursday, 06-Sep-12 14:01:50 UTC from web
1. @omni Actually, while I'm definitely open to having a non-serious relationship as I start out, under the right set of circumstances and with the right pet, I'd be happy to do as much as have them move in with me and my wife. Of course that seems pretty unlikely, but that's sort of the ultimate dream I think.. having a pet that I could really truly care for daily. If they want something more than the typical pet/owner relationship, it will have to be with somepony else, and I'll make that clear from the start, but I'm open to the idea of taking it very seriously. Is that what you mean by a real relationship?

1. @pony I'm not saying you shouldn't take it seriously, I'm just saying that there are surely going to be pets who want more with their owner than what one would normally do with a "real" pet (like, possibly, a sexual relationship as well). It's interesting you're willing to take it so far, though I must agree that that sounds at least somewhat interesting or nice. At the same time, however, I like being just with my owner and nobody else.

2. @omni Yes. And if the pet were a woman I might feel some tension there even if we both agree initially that it wouldn't go there, so that's certainly something to be aware of. I guess it would be something to figure out as we go.

1. @pony im just gonna bypass the conversation and say I couldn't ever do that since it sets off to many red flags in my head. Degrading, etc. And if youre like "why doesn't a dog as a pet bother you?" My answer would be because as smart as my dog is he isn't smarter then the average human. Or can talk. That said, we (family) don't even see or treat him as a pet. $30 steaks hot of the grill, etc. Actually he probably owns us... Barks we let him out, feed him steaks, he takes the bed I have to take the chair, etc. if my father kicks the bucket before my dog the estate goes to the dog. Ha! Im fine with that. My dog's awesome.

1. @firestormdangerdash I think the point isn't to make the pet less than the owner in the case of humans, but rather to establish a dynamic wherein the pet feels completely taken care of and the owner feels the love and acceptance of the pet.

1. @pony uh. Not techniclly. Just if I was in any kind of "ship" it would be for companionship. So im not saying I would but I could get into some strange situations for whatever reason.

2. @firestormdangerdash I had a 5 hour energy drink for the first time in my life last month because I needed to train at work after a night shift. It worked really well, but I don't plan to make a habit of it.

6. @minti Additionally, sexual stuff is more a case of willingness. There can be and there can't be, like all relationships.
