@northernnarwhal I'd still say it has a good chance of happening. They already have 2 characters with the same name on the roster after all, and also Mii costumes of existing characters as far as I know? Perhaps they weren't sure of how Splatoon would be received so just stuck with the costume initially. But yeah, after how big it's gotten, I'd think it's quite plausible for the future.

@ellistia That's true, I have a Cpt. Falcon helmet on my Mii Brawler and it's totally rad. I definitely haven't ruled out the possibility of Inklings being player characters, I'm just kinda disappointed all we have right now are the Mii costumes. You do raise a good point about how this could just be them testing the waters though (testing the ink?). But in all honesty Splatoon is the biggest original IP Nintendo's had in years, so I can definitely remain hopeful for the fantasically creative Inklings to have a larger presence in future updates for the game.

@ellistia Also I don't think the name thing would be an issue in the first place because if I recall correctly they would just show up as the name of the Mii used for the Mii fighter and not the name of the skin.

@caret7 I imagine if I ever got back into the show it would just be that- me being a fan of the show. That isn't to say I wouldn't enjoy fan works though, as communal culture is very important in the world of art! I'm just awfully apprehensive with the word "brony" and the prospect of "brony culture", I disagree with the notions of categorically identifying with my media. I feel that a term like "brony", aside from being weighted with some less than pleasurable connotations, is also reflective of a philosophy of media engagement that works more on the framework of an identity complex than that of critical evaluation or visceral enjoyment. My message doesn't technically spoil anything that happened in the episode and is more of just my reaction to it, but yeah, you'd be better off reading it after watching the episode.

@northernnarwhal @caret7 @riley I think 'Brony culture' has always been a struggle between two extremes. 1) firstly a very modern liberal conception of personal freedom, where everyone should be able to be who they want to be regardless of geder, secualty race or age. and on the other 2) a group of men coming in to take something that is amined and meant for little girls.
And sadly after episode MLP100 the second group has won and I agree with everything @caret7 (http://rainbowdash.net/notice/3940788) The eppiosode was akin to a buch of playground bullies taking away the sand pit.MetalTao likes this. -
@vcgriffin You're right, there's definitely a clear conflict of interests in terms of how we define the term, which is probably because even the term "brony" is already incredibly connotative. I don't align with the prospect of "brony culture" as an extension of the term "brony", which as I discussed in my previous post is really more of a contrived identity complex than an actual method of engagement with media. I certainly agree with your sandpit analogy too, e100 was very clearly submissive to that prospect of "brony culture", which has sort of become an entirely separate mentality of viewing the show. @thelastgherkin made a great post here http://rainbowdash.net/notice/3940825 about demographic that I think really rings true for this conversation.
