  1. Oh, and heres the best part of the chip cards. Let's say your in a restaurant or bar or something, where you don't pay at a designated spot. You give your credit card to the person to take away, right? NOT IN CANADA! Here they bring YOU one of these wireless keypads: http://pny.lv/3odc as shown, you shove your chipped card in the bottom, input PIN, and your done. Your card never leaves your sight. It can't be skimmed by an employee looking to make a quick buck. Nope. Its in your hand at all times.

  3. Seriously, go and line your wallet with part of an anti static bag. It blocks the RF. The good news is that you need a specialized app to read the actual payment info on the card anyway, and there's no way you would be able to buy that kind of stuff from any app store. You can still use a general NFC tag info app to prove that the reading works, but your not getting any payment info with that.

  4. Our cards do still have the magstrip, but that's really only for when we visit other countries and when the chip reader is out of order. Also most cards have that stupid NFC tap to pay as well. Ugh. I really wish I had a way to fry that portion. Until then, anti-static bags work wonders for blocking the communication.

  5. @redenchilada not usually a problem. Kinda like an old game cartridge, if it gets really bad you just squirt windex on a qtip and its all better.

  6. @techdisk ... Did I just overreact to freaking credit cards? Wow.

  7. NO, NOT NFC. NOT TOUCH. THIS. JEEZ. http://pny.lv/3od7

  8. @redenchilada we put it into a slot, kinda like an ATM. It reads the chip with half the card sticking out.

  9. @nerthos I'm not talking about NFC cards. I'm talking about "chip" cards, which have metal contacts on them to be read by a specialized reader. Like your SIM card in a phone.

  10. @nerthos clasps. Purses have magnetized clasps. And those can be quite powerful.

Thursday, 14-Aug-14 05:20:17 UTC from web in context
  11. @redenchilada ever looked at your SIM card? Its the exact same technology. So, no. Hard metal wins over melted plastic.

Thursday, 14-Aug-14 05:19:30 UTC from web in context
  12. Seriously. With the right app on my phone, all I would have to do is /place/ my phone on top of your wallet and I would have everything needed.

Thursday, 14-Aug-14 05:17:49 UTC from web in context
  13. @redenchilada I mean using a chip, like a SIM card in your phone. All our cards have it, and honestly touch and pay is even worse because your credit card info can be stolen quite easily with the right equipment.

Thursday, 14-Aug-14 05:16:30 UTC from web in context
  14. @nerthos not when a magnetized wallet can just erase it. Or a simple scratch. Or the many times you swipe it simply wearing it away.

  15. Sometimes I look at the US and start to think about how much stuff gets released there and never makes it to Canada. Then I realize that, wow, you guys don't even have microchips in your credit and debit cards. Like, seriously, Magnetic strip is just so terrible.
