Kind of makes me wish I’d introduced a fictional “President” character in like, 2019, while Trump was President, and then kept him as President after Biden took office so that nobody could say he was a clear analogue for either. Just say in an episode that New Jersey DIDN’T vote for this guy - so he’s a Republican, right? But no, wait, he also sponsored a tax hike and there are ads on TV about impeaching “the socialist”. Which party is he from? Neither. This world is fictional and real life political norms don’t apply, dummy.

I hate to “both sides” this apple but whataboutism is rampant on both sides and it seems like you can’t make fun of Joe Biden without somebody telling you the last guy was worse. Yes, we’re aware.

I’ve been getting more and more fed up with the bullbatcave that I have to deal with at work and have been planning to quit, but the only thing I could do is go do the same job with a different company which I’m sure would be just as applety, I’m an art school dropout who’s not qualified to do anything else. I can’t keep going on like this, one of these days I’m gonna hit my Potato Knishesing limit and go jump into traffic

I’ve gained 30 pounds since 2019 and I’m starting to think the fact that I spent a solid month eat two double quarter pounders for dinner every day had something to do with that.

my first day of work was the day after Donald Trump got elected President so in a way it really IS all his fault

i feel like ive stagnated as an artist over the last two years so i'm trying to do away with a lot of my old crutches, and change the way i do things in small but effective ways that make the characters seem more alive. one of those things is that after having done this for ten years the characters' chins FINALLY move when they talk instead of staying static. another is that i'm letting myself get a little sloppier with my lineart so that i can put more focus into adding more frames, make characters a little more dynamic... I'm going back to doing a Squigglevision-inspired line boil, this time using an After Effects preset so that I can just apply it universally to the entire cartoon all at once when i'm done. that i can afford to be a little looser with the lineart which lets me put more time into making the characters move around a little more. Like a less-nauseating Dr. Katz or Home Movies, but with characters that move around about as much as The Simpsons. That's what I'm going for

humble bundle monthly is a scam, i pay for it every month and they trick me into forgetting about it for long periods of time so that i have to spend three hours activating months of games on steam

I WANT to do it like the way Doctor Who or Buffy does it, where most episodes can be watched by themselves but still contribute to a seasonal myth arc, but people APPARENTLY don’t even like that very much.

Kind of a huge bummer that the average watcher-of-cartoons doesn’t enjoy serialized storytelling as much as I do, because that was the direction I wanted to take Swole Foods into, but every time I poll it people tell me they essentially want negative continuity like what Family Guy has.

Been vaccinated for a whole week, this time next week I’ll finally, for the first time in over a year, be able to fantasize about having a social life.

I’d like to think that I’m doing them for him, at least, and not just to feed my ego, which is probably the reality.

I was gonna bind together the thirty-something Swole Foods comics and give it to him and talk to him about what cartooning meant to me and how it helped me through a rough time of my life, but after reading through all of the comics I’ve made so far I’ve realized that I can give him very very few of them. It just wouldn’t be appropriate. So these next few comics are for him, I guess.

There’s a guy with special needs who’s about my age working at my store and he’s having a lot of problems at home, I don’t know the full details but it’s not good, and I’ve been trying to find ways to help him feel more comfortable while he’s at work. The other day I found him reading these old, beat up Calvin & Hobbes comics on his break and I asked if he had anything else, and no, he’s been reading these same Calvin & Hobbes comics every day. And like, it’s not exactly the same thing, but I got bullied in school, and cartoons helped me cope with that, but even more than that, watching Eddsworld and realizing that any random jerk can do it, and therefore I can do it, REALLY helped me cope with that. Maybe it’s slightly narcissistic, but I thought that if the kid realized his boss drew comics and whatnot just like his Calvin & Hobbes book, it’d help him find an outlet for all those negative feelings he’s been having.

The next few swole foods comics are gonna be a little more “family friendly” as a personal challenge to myself to not the make the punchline either sex, politics, or death.
