@cabal As for the paranoia issue: You yourself are the one who posted suggesting that if SOPA passes, you'd be dragged out of your house by a SWAT team in the dead of night. That IS paranoia. One could also aruge that reading my previous post and coming to the conclusion that it was /intended/ to patronise is also a mark of paranoia. You editorialise every issue you have an opinion on extremely strongly, leading to a chicken little/boy who cried wolf scenario whereby you may well be talking about something incredibly important (IE: Free Speech) but the manner in which you are talking about it puts people off.

@abigpony I don't want to get into the merits of the argument or the authors issues with paypal specifically, but the argument persuaded the other users of this site, which is where the rift between you and the people who were offended by you lies. FWIW, I escalated the posts that got you banned to an administrator for their verdict, rather than getting involved myself at the time, as I considered myself too emotionally involved to make a good decision.

@pumpkinhill What we understand: This is bad. What we don't understand fully: EXACTLY how much it will affect us. Say what you want, but you probably haven't lived with censored internet. Most of us don't know what its like! We need to know exactly how bad it will be, so we will just make just a bit more effort, because unless the US gets 50 more representatives against this stuff, it will pass (PIPA) in the senate. We need to motivate the people making the decisions just a bit towards what the people want, instead of what the businesses want

@the20percent So what do you wish me to do past those emails and whatnot that I've already done? I understand full well how inconvenient and terrible the outcome will be, but my voice can only do so much past what I've already done. Having no internet access at all for a week was more than annoying enough, but I managed. That's not the point though and the thing is that I understand how inconvenienced it would be and how privileged we are right now to have it.

It's one of those fundraising type places, where u go around selling pizza kits to people in your neighborhood through your school or church or something. But if they dont do that in your area, you can always find the local center and purchase some directly from them

!movies Oh, yeah. Saw "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo." Thought it was good, I'd give it a B-. Can't really review it well here because it is VERY R-rated. David Fincher and Trent Reznor can create some seriously claustrophobic cinema together. Thought it started to fall apart in around Act 3. @madflavors What did you go and do that for? what kind of meat? (one time that happened 2 me with ham... have never been able to eat it again) Laying flat on your back usually helps keep stuff down.

!movies - "The Descendants." Pretty melancholy for a comedy, especially one set in Hawaii. Guess that's what a comedy/drama is, though, regardless of setting. It's basically the story of an already-fractured family dealing with the type of blows that could drive them apart forever. George Clooney really carried the majority of the film, but that's probably because he had the most screen time. Shailene Woodley did a fantastic job as his eldest daughter, and Matthew Lillard had a surprising role as someone who couldn't be described as "wacky," "loveable," or "energetic." Back to Clooney, I think that the most impactful moments were the silences and pauses, especially just before a line or an action; it gives you time to wonder what's going on inside and really come to empathize with him. Probably not a movie I, personally, would buy; I'm still giving it an A-.

!movies "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows." If you liked the first one, you were probably, like me, pleasantly surprised by how well Robert Downey, Jr. played the detective. He keeps it up very well in this one. The chemistry and dynamic between Downey and Jude Law is nonstop, rapid-fire, and alternately hilarious and touching (no homo). Jared Harris made a great Moriarty, brilliant and subtly insane. The plot was not too convoluted; like a proper Holmes story, hard to predict but not hard to follow. In the first "Sherlock Holmes," there was a mechanic in fight scenes which is also used here (and improved, and played with, and all around brilliantly used). The cinematography did a great job of conveying the subjective perceptions of the different characters. Finally, if you're familiar with the original writings, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised at a certain twist which I won't give away (unless you have Holmsian perception). I dug it, B+. Would see again.
