@tiffany @narwhal @narwhal yeah thats a problem in a lot of anime. one show that does really well with subtitles is The Tatami Galaxy

@tiffany It's something I've gotten accustomed to over time watching lots of anime, but I also read a fair bit of books so I guess reading in general comes pretty easy to me. That being said, the actual dialogue (and by extension subtitles) in Madoka Magica go at a pretty leisurely pace, even if there is quite a bit of dialogue in the show.

The funny thing about the whole "Fire Emblem as a dating sim" joke is that character pairings are actually really important at higher level difficulties because of the various stat bonuses high rank relationships give.

@mushi Your main unit can get a romantic partner, so you can date someone in the game. My earlier post is joking about how the "Fire Emblem as a dating sim" joke isn't technically all that far off the mark, or at least characters getting together is part of the game's strategy at high levels of difficulty.

@thelastgherkin Well yeah, but I dunno if you've played Fire Emblem before or if you made the joke based off of sheer observation, so you could say I'm clarifying the joke for those not in the know.

@narwhal Sound was one of Lloyd Kaufman's big foci in his "...Your Own Damn Movie" books. Innumerable indie and low budget productions that would otherwise be serviceable are ruined by bad sound.

@narwhal I sort of just tend to think about sound almost as much as visuals in any form of media. I dunno why. Even when I was a kid I could point out when one work used the same sound libraries as another.

@mrmattimation My brother and I actually have a bunch of inside jokes between us for a handful of commonly used audio effects that we've both recognized since we were young. Funnily enough despite working in audio I actually tend to pay more attention to the visuals in my first run through of a film, though I've also done so much work in audio that it's now easier for me to pick up on and evaluate the audio of something I'm watching.

@tiffany the chi square test is a test done to determine if the results of a repeated experiment are the result of chance (getting slightly more heads than tails on coin flips) or if there may be some external factor that you have not considered (coins are almost always tails) on a significant number of repetitions
