  1. @nerthos Namco Bandai owns the international publishing rights to Dark Souls, which is why it's cross-platform, however I know Sony retains some publishing rights to Demon's Souls so rereleasing it on a non-Sony platform would be legally challenging.

  2. If Mushi's playing Demon's Souls I can't wait to hear about his experience with the Flamelurker boss if he ever gets to it

  3. @nerthos Yeah I haven't played DS2 since around the time it came out (which was over 2 years ago) whereas I've revisited DS1 and Demon's Souls more recently, so I have stronger recollections of those games.

  4. @nerthos Wouldn't you have to fight the Dragonrider before battling the Old Dragonslayer/Ornstein though?

  5. @nerthos Interesting, I know for most people (myself included) The Last Giant was their first boss battle in 2.

  6. @noirbatch I do quite like discussions like these, thank you~~ http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/838083

  7. @nerthos What's also interesting is that many bosses and encounters could be avoided or skipped entirely given the layout of the world, so not only would the difficulty of certain enemies and bosses adjust relative to your playstyle, but so would how you engage with them and the game's world.

  8. @noirbatch Oh yeah even Dark Souls 1, which I consider to be kind of a high watermark in games that have been released these past few years, isn't without some glaringly obvious cracks and flaws (looking at you, Bed of Chaos!) but in the broader scope of the game's accomplishments blemishes like those dissipate relative to its rich, organically developed world. What makes the Souls games and Bloodbourne great aren't simply small, individual touchstones but achievements reflective of their grander philosophy of game design that places priority on the individuality and emotional investment of player experience.

  9. @nerthos Good plan

  10. @nerthos I just don't have anything I can play it on at the moment. I was gonna buy a PS4 earlier this month but I recently got in touch with a friend of mine who has one and is planning on selling his, so I may just end up buying his later for less.

  11. @mrmattimation It's hard to really briefly describe the appeal, but I guess it's that the Souls games (and Bloodborne) function not only as a well crafted RPGs but create a distinct player experiences through their command of atmosphere, worldbuilding, pacing, and attention to detail. They're games I've enjoyed a lot these past few years.

  12. @nerthos I've managed to avoid spoilers for the most part, though I hung out with a friend yesterday who has the game and we talked a bit about it. He's been saying the same thing- better than 2 for sure (although it's generally accepted that 2 is sort of stumble relative to the rest of From Software's recent output). Hidetaka Miyazaki's input and direction has been crucial to their success.

  13. @mushi I would hardly consider myself someone like myself very good at games, but I think the Souls games (to varying degrees) have a good economy of difficulty. They're often misunderstood as simply being excruciatingly hard and unfair, but it's more so that patience and observation are compulsory to grow and succeed. They're well designed games.

  14. I really wanna play Dark Souls 3, it looks really good.

  15. @noirbatch @mushi Seconding this. Become a Royal, magic is stupidly powerful in Demon's Souls. But it is one of the tougher Souls games that I've played so I can understand your frustration.

  21. @rarity I mean sure, there's no denying that there's comedic relief in his works, but I feel like proposing that said relief is the focus, cause of success, or centre of critical attention regarding his works misses the point entirely.

  22. @rarity Statement's like this feel awfully reductive of his wider body of work, and in my opinion don't take into consideration the diversity of his written bibliography.

  29. @eris Looking at it in terms of Gym Leaders early game, Bulbasaur is kind of an optimal pick. Grass is super effective against rock and water and resistant to electricity. Although I'm generally partial to the grass type starter in Pokemon games regardless, with maybe one or two exceptions.

  30. @mrmattimation You should follow through with the Christ -> Crust gag in the bottom motto too, since dough rises so it'd be a double entendre.
