Life lesson: It's easier to solder two stacking PCBs together via pins than to remove all that solder to disassemble. I got a new solder sucker and it sucks. I mean it is not very good. That solder sucker is an iFixit solder sucker and i'd give it a rating of 2.5 out of 5 stars. The nozzle is way too big for 2.54mm pitched pins and the suction action itself is a little bit too weak.

@adiwan Get one of those solder stations that have both and an hot air pistol, they're only like $100 nowadays.

There are theories about a hollow earth, which are obviously stupid. I have have also a theory on my own: the hollow head theory, which shows more and more signs each day that provide evidence that it might be true.

Crazy idea: A bed that is basically a bean bag, except the outer layer is airtight. When laying on the bed the body sinks in and with an applied vacuum to the bean bag the sleeping position gets fixed. I don't know how comfortable or uncomfortable this might be but at least it prevents contorting oneself into a painful position. I cannot count how many times I slept in a way that made my back hurt or pinched a nerve or even restricted blood flow to my arms.

@scribus Eventually we, as a society, will end up in a dystopia that is Demolition Man before cryosleep will be possible. I had a discussion with a friend about cryosleep. He says if all the cell tissue problems are solved that come with cryosleep then cryosleep won't be necessary. It means that if a method exists that repairs or reverses all the damage that cryosleep induces then there is a method for making a person live forever and thus making cryosleep not necessary.
-
@adiwan So still a kink thing, then
-
@adiwan There have been huge developments in aging reversal and prevention these last few months actually, working off potential treatments for premature aging disease they discovered what part of the organism codes the timeframes for aging, and they can be modified to force the body to slow or reverse it, thus greatly extending the "good years"
Current testing is on organisms affected by the disease originally investigated.

If anyone wants to keep in touch and doesn't yet have me added somewhere, you can find me on steam and discord under the same name. You're welcome in my tavern forever. Tavern forever.

I think it's probably time to be honest about this: I have neither the time, nor the motivation to work on this place anymore. There's stuff going on in my personal life I'd rather not get into, so in short: I'm probably going to finally turn this place off in the next few months. If you're interested in taking ownership, let me know, but know that I'd only be comfortable handing it off to someone I know and trust, rather than any rando that shows up.

@ceruleanspark Thanks for all the memories, this site was a core part of my adolescence. Found it early in high school right as I was becoming my own self and still think fondly of it even if I haven't regularly used it in a decade. It's always been nice to pop in and see familiar names. If anyone wants to keep up post RDN my Steam and FB links are in my profile. I wish everyone the best in life!
-
@ceruleanspark Thanks for all the hard work over the years. This was a fun place to hang out when I was but a friendless kiddo dealing with middle school angst- don't know how I could have stood it without. Hope all will be well; if not now, then in the future.
-
@ceruleanspark Thanks for keeping it up for so long. I don't post often, but I check in now and then. Made all my first fedifriends over here and I'm thankful it has lasted this long. Gonna miss everypony.

Anyone claiming a smartphone or tablet can replace a regular computer is a delusional fool who has not tasted the power and freedom that a computer offers. I tried catching up on my tablet and it made me realize once again how limiting and cumbersome touchscreens are and how android is not making it easy navigating anything and its ecology is not geared to power users. Autocorrect and predictive text blocks are mere crutches and poor imitations of the feats one can do when mastering touch typing on a physical keyboard. I coould learn doing that on a screen keyboard but doing so blindly is verging on the impossible.
about 10 months ago from web- Someone Probably likes this.
- Scribus repeated this.
-
@adiwan Extremely agree. It feels as though smart phones and tablets have become ever more restrictive. I do value the constant connectivity, but my phone could never possibly replace my computer.
-
@elli I have a friend who is a teacher and they have children who have never touched a Windows PC. Those children are in a majority. THAT is scary.

@firestormdangerdash I use firefox and have the same problem. I just upload to imgur or any other image hosting site and post the link.
-
@adiwan huh. Do you think its a coding website issue, or just how modern browsers edited the upload system?
-
@firestormdangerdash I think it's a server issue

So. I was in a very bad car crash a a few months ago. Hit from two sides. Highway speed. Now insurance and law are sniffing at me with hunger no doubt, and medical is listing me with a hundred and one reasons why I can't be a functional adult, but my lack of injuries and lack of symptoms are making it worse, since I can't safely get any kind of long term income cause im not injured but the medical file bars me from working or driving. My only hope is loopholes in laws and maybe some good graces of those that dont care to sign off on me for the odd thing. But I bananaed off a higher power.

@firestormdangerdash That's insane. Hopefully it will get better.
-
@adiwan Thank you. I never cared about life direction. But I knew how to handle my life. Now I was scared for a long time since I had rights and independence medically stripped from me on doctors orders. My future feels dead. My career probably is too. There is a slow path that might get my some rights back. But is that enough to be free? Idk. And easily undone if a doctor comes up with a new condition to give me. My only breaking point is just ignoring the medical and thus law to rebuild my life. Worst case I will lose what I already lost. Freedom.

Gonna assemble myself a first-aid box. I have the feeling that all the ready-to-go purchasable ones are lacking in material and actually useful bandages. Also the ones with any number of pieces in the title are even more scummy as they count every single safety pin and other useless small piece. I want middle to big band-aids. Furthermore I don't need a hard plastic case or yet another nylon zip bag. For my car I need one of those ready-to-go ones that are mandated but that is a different thing.
Thursday, 11-Jan-24 20:36:49 UTC from web-
@adiwan I recommend looking into hydrocolloid gel bandages, they're pretty interesting.
-
@scribus second this, I switched to them a while ago. I haven't really gotten a chance to use them aside from a few small cuts here and there (which is a positive I suppose) but my experience with them has been positive.
-
@scribus Thanks for the recommendation.

I thought this site was dead for the last 6 months cause I kept getting this error. I tried different browsers and devices and same thing but today it finally worked. Anyone else have this issue? http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/876377
Thursday, 22-Jun-23 02:11:30 UTC from web-
@macpony55 I always get this with almost any browser I use. Only way I can get it to load conisistently is by using this macos app called fluid. Other than that it’s almost inaccessible for me lol. I don’t mind though, adds to the charm :)

@macpony55 Concerning. Looking into it

@thelastgherkin this is unfaithful because the thing being alleged is actually happening

Wednesday, 19-Apr-23 07:35:18 UTC from web-
@scribus People who think they value freedom of speech actually hate the freedom of speech of others.
-
@scribus no vandalism at my store yet but it’s coming I think, a group of Trumpers came in last week and stole literally every newspaper reporting on his arrest so they could trash it before anyone could read it so I’m expecting those same guys to try some apple with the Bud Light too
-
@scribus The masterminds at Budweiser came up with the perfect evil plan: if you don't buy it you're a somethingphobe, if you buy it you have to drink Bud Light. With this masterful move, they can cause suffering to all peoples of the nation.

@scribus I'm really hoping they get the funding for a proper series/movie, the "aesthetically pleasant, good for all ages funny animal cartoon" genre needs a revival.

@nerthos For real, dude. It's been too long since G and PG meant anything other than "little kids" and "bigger kids," Brandon Tenold does a great takedown of 70's PG vs Today in his video on Ralph Bakshi's "Wizards."
