I don't get how speedrunning RPGs is a thing. It just... doesn't seem like it'd be as entertaining as, say, a platformer or an FPS would be.

@redenchilada I will say that RPGs as a whole tend to have trouble holding my interest. That probably affects my enjoyment of the speedruns.

@toksyuryel I know of one CT TAS that abuses glitches, so that'd fit under the category I consider entertaining. (I like seeing things broken c: Only reason I watched four and a half hours of Wind Waker.)

Seriously, this stream has been on FF9 for two hours and large chunks of time are mashing the X button to advance the text. It's kind of really really boring.

@redenchilada Interesting thing about FF9 is the game actually gives you a reward for speedrunning it. There's a sword you can only get if you reach the final area before a certain amount of time.

ffmpeg is really frustrating to work with because it does not follow any of the rules. Its exit status is always 0 regardless of errors, it does not have a non-interactive mode or even a quiet mode, and it take a bit to start up so trying to script things to run after it has started is a trial and error process full of completely random and difficult to detect failures.

@zeldatra I thought the same, though I never hated it. I was just frightened of it. I reasoned right away that for it to be this prevalent it had to be doing SOMETHING right, but I was terrified of becoming like the fans of it I saw. It took several months and one very special friend of mine to get me to finally watch the show, and I don't regret it at all. My fear may have come true, but I learned that it wasn't something to be afraid of it all- it is, on the contrary, a very wonderful thing. ☺

But yeah. Fixed up my old logo override userscript. Was surprisingly little work, and it technically ought to work on the old design too, if we all of a sudden reverted to that (unlikely). http://bigmacintosh.net/f/rdn-logo-override.user.js if anyone wants it? (You'll need a way of running userscripts. Firefox+Scriptish tested, Chrome+Tampermonkey tested, other combinations ought to work.)

Let's talk about alicorn lore. Ever noticed they're all mares? Who took care of sun and moon before the princesses defeated Discord? I think they're created from regular ponies. And I wonder, is Twilight set up to become one? Also I wonder, Cadence was a teen when Twilight was a filly. Who were her parents/creators? I think you probably need one of each pony race to create an alicorn.

@pony Note that fluttershy grew up without ever visiting the ground. And flying skill seems to be a mark of status among them. One that only pegasi can acquire. Whereas status is not tied to a specific ability for earth ponies or unicorns.

@kamikaze I see unicorn elitism in canon as clearly as I see it for pegasi I think, but I guess it depends on the city. Cloudsdale and Canterlot seem to be mainstays of pegasus and unicorn culture, tradition, etc. respectively, though Canterlot is obviously more accessible to other types of ponies. Still, so far unicorn royalty is unique to unicorns like flight is to pegasi. Earth ponies are really the humble lot it seems with a few exceptions like the Rich family perhaps.

Updating the version of lwjgl supplied with Minecraft to 2.8.4 seems to have fixed the stuck keys issue for me! Yay :D I should start playing this game again. Does RDN still have a server? !vgp

@toksyuryel RDN doesn't host one anymore (Insufficient RAM), but I don't know if anyone else with a spare server stepped in the replace it. I know Dragon did make the worldfiles available because somebody volunteered for that, but I can't for the life of me remember who.
