Gonna re-write my QBASIC mouse breeding program from my last college English class as my first official C project. !coderponies

So now that I have internet-free time, I'm telling myself to learn C and make a Turbografx 16 homebrew game. !coderponies !vgp #thisprobablywontwork

@scribus Sounds incredible. I'd start with a PC game first before delving into troubles with handling with the limitations of the console.
-
@adiwan With "incredible" I mean "fantastic". Poor choice of words on my part.
-
@adiwan Either way, I acknowledge the pie-in-the-sky aspect of my aspirations, even if I have no idea what "pie-in-the-sky" is really supposed to mean...

on the status of gnutan:
https://gnutan.xyz/
tl;dr the recent db failure + my neglect of it means i dont think i should run the site -
> drop table feedsub
Table 'feedsub' doesn't exist
> create table feedsub
Table 'feedsub' already exists
grape php
grape mysql
mangokk-
@maiyannah well i'm not sure how to fix that since i had it set on innodb ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
@x53 You sacrifice an old server to the sysadmin god
-
@x53 More seriously, was it always innodb? Because I had the same problem when I changed it over from myISAM or whatever the acronym is. I basically had to create dummy files, drop the tables, and restore from backup.
-
-
while you're waiting for gnutan to come back up, here's a joke: gnu social's image parsing code
seriously what the grape-
@normandy @x53 I plan on rewriting that entirely. My work up to now when it comes to that is a patch job "ohgodPotato Knishessbrokenagain" kind of thing. Hopefully when I normalize on the meds I can get back to regular development.
The problem this presents programming wise is oEmbed is a required plugin by the core software so you'd either have to write out that dependancy, make a replacement that emulates the previous functionality enough that batcave doesn't break, or end up rewriting some fairly large tracts of code.
-
Alright. Despite the entire table containing the info that connected us to other instance's users getting corrupted, I think I can fix it.
-
tutorials on fixing corrupted tables for the server system i have seem to have the thought that interacting with the table seems possible
-
for that table literally as soon as it is interacted with at all the mysql server goes completely down
-
-
apparently the gnutan db failure was caused by a powerfailure(?) during the db updating to show a user follows another use
-
@biwazimayui @why ah, i see the description
i utterly deserve that-
@x53 @biwazimayui @why glad you weren't murdered by outraged pony fans
-
@moonman @biwazimayui @why yeah
what happened is i'm on vacation, so terrible things happen while im enjoying the "outside" -
@biwazimayui @why s/description/name/
-
-
okay
LOCK TABLES is causing crashes
i think that monty python quote was slightly too apt
-
@why i completely understand
i shouldve paid more attention to kiwi, and gnutan compared to the other nodes was just not as wellmaintained -
@biwazimayui i do come back for when someone reminds me about gnutan
-
so the reason gnutan.xyz/ is down is because mysqld is failing an assert on startup
so that's nice -

@x53 @nbd @takemangoakenji I believe the disabling of registrations only prevents it from the front-end, not the API.
... which is a bit of an oversight and a half if true.

GNUTan registration is disabled while I try and figure out how the hell to fix this.

@nbd Just don't have public registration enabled :)

So GNUTan had it's cert expired and then the drive ran out of space. So that's why it's down, if you were curious.

- Fixed a minor bug related to people deleting their posts
- Only mods can turn it on/off (Change the modList list as needed)
- Will no longer be run independently, so if a person is interested in it, get python, install modules, run it yourself on any OS (I think)Thursday, 25-Feb-16 05:01:47 UTC from web -

Lvbot II updated.
New:
- Slightly cleaner
- Slightly more efficient
- Can turn the welcoming function on/off
- Less triggering and more PC welcome/congratulatory messages (Slightly)
Planned:
- Make it so only mods can turn welcome functions on/off
- More efficient and clean
- More messages
- Find a way to make the bot reference Dwarf Fortress
- Considering making the bot post a single random message if no one has posted for three hoursTuesday, 23-Feb-16 17:31:30 UTC from web-
@thelastgherkin By Cerulean, back when I made the first lvbot? He's still the admin, right?
-
@lvbot I'm not sure if permission then still equates to permission now, especially if you're considering this a separate project to the first lvbot.
-
@thelastgherkin 'Separate project' is a bit confusing since it's effectively just updating the old lvbot after sending to into Python, as well as how Cerulean's already aware of the welcome function. The complaints he made thusfar were the types of messages and how it welcomed new users when WelcomePony already did, so I already fixed that, now.
If you're talking about it posting a random message if no one else has over the past three hours, that's just an idea I'm currently toying with. If I decide to go with it, and flesh it out, I plan to ask Cerulean if he's fine with it being added, before I code it.
