…eh, Goodfellas was kind of in the past. It’s all over the place.
Monday, 22-Nov-21 04:39:50 UTC from web -
I guess, at the time, The Godfather and Goodfellas WERE modern, and The Sopranos is the 90s to their 70s and 80s, but stories about the mob since then haven’t really LEFT the 70s and 80s because of the impact those films had.

Also a friend and I have been trying to write a script for a live-action comedy film centering around a guy who spends years undercover in a New York crime family, it’s set in the 2020s, and I watching this while thinking about that made me think about how there aren’t that many mafia films set in the modern day, it’s all about the 70s and 80s and stuff, The Sopranos is probably as modern as it gets. Would be interesting to explore how the mob operates in the internet age and in a post-9/11 world. Frank Cali was assassinated by a QAnon supporter. That’s insane. The boss of the Gambino crime family, who ran the show for years, got taken out by some guy who thought Trump wanted him to because he was told so on 4Chan. Not gonna see that kiwi in Goodfellas.

Watching through The Sopranos for the first time, i am beginning to think that, contrary to the established premise, Tony does not actually work in waste management. Also I know I'm not supposed to but I really like him, James Gandolfini does a great job making this complete asshole seem likable.

@scribus Had to have the police take a guy home because he was incredibly drunk, was just eating deli meat that he took off the shelves, and then fell asleep underneath a bench in the store. Problem is he lived really close by, so after the cops left he just… walked back over here and was back in literally half an hour later.

had a situation at my store that more or less boiled down to exactly this Simpsons scene http://rainbowdash.net/url/876043

Remember that Simpsons episode where Homer buys a gun and he becomes a pariah, not because he has a gun, but because he was waving it around like an irresponsible jackass?

In this scenario the good guy with the legal gun was unable to stop the bad guy with the illegal gun, AND the guy with the illegal gun got off.

@scribus I don’t have much else to add that others have already said better, but if I were a gun advocate (well, more than I already am) I’d be absolutely furious that the kid wasn’t locked up on at least the gun charge. Taking an illegal gun to a protest across state lines and then killing three guys with legally acquired guns really undercuts a lot of pro-gun arguments you usually hear.

“Virginia is for Lovers” is apparently a trademarked phrase, so I had to put something else on these vehicle registration plate textures. http://rainbowdash.net/url/876040

I hired three new part-time assistants to help me keep making cartoons, this pretty much guarantees that everything I do will be completely and totally unprofitable but if it gets things out faster then whatever

next year I’ll be moving in with a 20 year old and a 30 year old

a few months ago I felt weird about hanging out with a bunch of 18-19 year olds fresh out of high school, today I’ve achieved the opposite by driving my 43 year old boss to an auto shop to pick up his car and engaging in conversation with him about home prices and auto loans, I’m pretty sure I’m literally incapable of making friends my own age

The writers apparently felt killing off Agnes Skinner would’ve been too upsetting but given the episode’s darker nature (and gorier - one of Fat Tony’s goons gets shot in the eyeball) I think it would’ve fit. http://rainbowdash.net/url/876032

The recent (non-canon) Simpsons two-parter “A Serious Flanders” was a lot of fun, but I feel like the first part gives itself away as non-canon too quickly by having Burns get shot (and killed, this time) during a shootout. The episode’s other deaths were Rich Texan, Disco Stu, and Fat Tony & his goons, and in an early version of the script, Agnes Skinner, all of whom i 100% believe they would kill off for shock value. But by having Mr. Burns be one of the ones to get bumped off the episode suddenly loses some of the drama.

Here’s what they don’t tell you about recording a sex scene where you’re both of the participants - you’re gonna have to do several takes because it’s really, really funny.

A different gay character gets a boyfriend like three episodes in to make up for that. I voice both halves. Tell me to go papaya myself again. I’ll do it.

writing a show with a bisexual main character is kinda tough because I don’t want it to be like queer-baiting lip service or anything like that but on the other hand I feel like that’s exactly what it’ll come off like if I eventually decide not to but her in a committed same-sex relationship. Currently there’s no definitive conclusion written in that department despite what these initial shorts are probably gonna imply. The idea is that, as is often the case in real life for people whose names don’t rhyme with “rat”, she’s gonna date a lot and different characters are going to come and go before she finally has her banana figured out.
