  3. Especially since “digital animation” before the 2000s required very expensive custom IBM PCs - now studios just buy iMacs in bulk and put them on desks and it works fine. Every step of the process, from layout to colors to CGI to even editing and dubbing, can be done in people’s homes now.

  4. @scribus There is PRECEDENT for something like that, bits of I think The Lion King and Pocahontas were animated remotely after an earthquake temporarily shut down Disney’s Glendale campus, but there’s no way it would be able to be coordinated on a large scale long term basis pre-digital era. Al Jean said that he encouraged staff at the Simpsons’ relatively new in-house animation studio to work from home well before California’s stay-at-home orders and work wasn’t slowed in the slightest in spite of that. Could not have happened twenty years ago.

  5. Keep thinking about how papayaed the animation industry would be if this Covid thing happened in the 80s or 90s or even in the early 2000s.

  13. To be clear, I’m not associating protests inherently with violence, it’s just that cops are gonna be “chaperoning” the event and we don’t actually have our own PD here, policing is handled by the sheriff from the next town over, where there’s a prominent Klan chapter. Punches tend to get thrown in those conditions. :/

  20. I try to be as nice as possible to truck drivers when they have deliveries for me but sometimes they’re just pricks. This dude showed up four hours late, no call, with twelve pallets, did his shopping before coming to me, then had the audacity to get angry with me when I told him he’d have to wait half an hour for the night captain because he’d shown up so late that I didn’t have anyone to watch the desk (plus my hand is injured so I can’t pull pallets right now). Threatened to leave with my groceries. I called his bluff. He told me he’d call his boss and they’d tell him to leave and that I wouldn’t get my delivery. I told him to call them (this had happened once before so I already knew what the outcome would be). He called them and I watched him get angrier and angrier as his boss explained to him that he’d just have to wait. Smiled and told him the night captain would be here soon. He stormed out and poured in his truck the entire half hour.

  24. The whole opening is CGI more or less and the pilot has this huge sky-crane shot of the parking lot which I want to also be CGI, so I basically have to get everything exactly right from the start.

  25. Swole Foods’ CGI toon shader is basically perfected. My benchmark was Futurama and I think in some aspects it actually looks better, the line work, for example, is all textured to look hand drawn & I have the generator intentionally create errors in places so that it fits in both with the characters and also to make it harder to tell which elements are CGI and which are painted. Now I just need to... model... everything...
