@scribus I've seen both. The Holiday Special is objectively atrocious. It's a boring train wreck in a bizarre way only that time period could produce with the ferocity of a coked-up Carrie Fischer. Acolyte has problems and tends to sets more things up than to resolve and the resolution feels lacking. Nothing insultingly bad but just... wishing for more.

I bought a micro controller 6 years ago and hadn't a need for it yet, until now. It shocked me that the price doubled since then. It's an Atmega32u4 that has a male USB connector, also known as a Atmega32u4 Beetle, or BadUSB on some sites. I used the micro controller to emulate a mouse that wiggles the cursor periodically in order to prevent the locking of the screen when idle. The laptop from the client has locked down pretty much everything that could be otherwise be a workaround in software.
It took me several attempts to make it work, because I was too optimistic with my gentle cursor wiggling. Windows' threshold is quite generous for its idle detection. At first I wiggled a pixel back and forth once every 5 minutes and it developed to twice a minute and twice a small figure 8 in a 3x3 pixel window. I think it is done to filter out some crappy mouse sensors that are very noisy. In practice it's not that distracting and the wiggling imperceptible when the mouse is actually used.Monday, 22-Jul-24 16:01:42 UTC from web -
Every time it rains I put some buckets outside to collect rain water that I put into a rain water barrel. Just from today's rain I collected almost 100l (26 US liquid gallons).

I've also done a little bit of gardening. My lawn is more dead moss than grass. Even after the last time (about two weeks ago) I removed even more moss that became more obvious because the grass isn't growing as well as it should. I like moss but that is either brown as mud or green as grass. In either state it's not very noticible if there is a lawn improvement or not.
If I knew how annoying it would turn out I had stripped down to the top layer of the soil, added a new layer of very fertile soil on top and planted the grass seed on top. Would have been more effective in every way.Thursday, 18-Jul-24 20:16:08 UTC from web -
@scribus Today's tomato count is 105. Spaghetti sauce will be guaranteed a thing I have to make. This week I bought a giant glass of pickles so I have a jar for all of that.

I got a project that needs hardware (laptop) provided by the client. However it's a quite locked-down thing where even the wallpaper is reset on a reboot. The worst part is that it has a rather short time until the screen gets locked on idle. Going away for 5 minutes, like going to the bathroom or getting a snack, is enough for the screen lock to trigger. I have to dig up my Arduino Leonardo to emulate a mouse and make it wiggle from time to time or enter a not common keyboard button like any F-button above 12, which won't affect any regular application.

First victim a tomato fruit just fell after a very heavy rain. Still have lots.

Current tomato count: 70. Most of the flowers are very recently fertilized. I'm slightly anxious when thinking about the harvest. It'll be probably too much for me to handle. Most of the tomatoes are beefsteak tomatoes, an old French sort called Marmande, and they can get up to half a pound, mostly quarter pound. There are currently 25 of them growing and judging from the blossoms 3 times as much will develop. Thankfully not at the same time. I guess I need to prepare for cooking huge amounts of tomato sauce. Need tons of jars.

@zeldatra Similar to Berlin that is so broke that any official paperwork and permit takes an eternity and there is a high likelihood that offices are closed without any good reason, and most places are a cherryhole. I was only a few times there and it wasn't a pleasant experience.

Ah yes New York... It needs 1.6 million USD paid to McKinsey to determine that trash bins are effective. I could have done for half.

I only own MTG cards and some old-school Pokémon cards. I have only a hand full of MTG cards that can be considered pretty valuable (> 50 USD) and my Pokémon cards are in total worth 30 USD, even a good chunk of 1st edition ones, but they are all in German.

@scribus The lucky ones are who own priceless baseball cards so they can be cashed in for horrendous prices by selling them to the most gullible people on earth, next to NFT-bros and crypto-bros. Of course the reports are basically promoting more card theft because the cards have become more profitable and hyped.

@adiwan one of three is working again. Somehow one fixed itself. The other two are good enough as project boxes for my micro controllers.

I have 3 access points (same model) and they all died within a short time span, even the one that wasn't plugged in for over half a year. It's super strange.

My mother planted some beanstalks in my garden but they haven't survived. They got victim of mildew. I tried to use some household remedies and worked for a short while, however sustained rain washed the remedy away.

@scribus I think I have some 386/486 PC parts laying around in storage. I think at this point they are best Millenial material

Hahaha... If I had a decent and recent GPU I wouldn't sell. My PC is about 9 years old. At this point my PC would be in 3rd or 4th grade in Elementary School.

HELP. I bought more tomato seeds for next year. I bought "Ananas Noire", "Purple Sunrise", "Osu Blue" and some other. They look visually appealing. "Purple Sunrise" is dark pruple on top and yellow on the bottom. Wanna taste the sunrise.

Star Trek Prodigy season 2 is out and I've binged it as fast as I could. I still think that Prodigy is the best Star Trek series currently. I really hope this series continues and won't be canceled as anything close to good in the past decade.

The rain and wind in the night were so strong that they knocked over some of my tomato plants. Now I have bound them to a pole. Before that they were wound up around the pole by itself. I had the impression that they were attached well enough. At least they weren't damaged in an obvious way. Maybe I'll have to think about getting a greenhouse.

The curse of having multiple 3D printers. A family member has a startup and wants me to print a Neon-LED sign. More specifically the channel that the Neon-LED strip is put in. The sign is a text sign but with a funky futuristic typeset. The worst part is that the sign is so big that the model had to split into a myriad of individual pieces that need to be glued together. The sign will be 400cm x 68cm in size (13,1234ft x 2.230971 ft).
Well... It's not only one big sign but two! The other will be similar in size, maybe a little bit shorter.Saturday, 29-Jun-24 12:49:13 UTC from web -
@scribus Honestly, this is more f-ed up.
