Oh wait, Good morning everyone!

It says I have 2.3.6 Gingerbread. Pretty sure that isn't ICP or whatever

@omni Insane Clown Posse.
-
@thelastgherkin ... Wat. Let me look thinga up.
-
@thelastgherkin Close enough.
-
-
Oh look, the update finished, and the difference is completely imperceptible.

@thelastgherkin welp
-
@thelastgherkin Either you were already running Android 4, or @techdisk lied to you about what the update was.
-
-
On the 6th day of unix-mas, my sysadmin gave to me, six different runlevels, five minutes of sudo, for loops of running (and lots of punning), three standard filehandles, two forked processes and a new user id. #climagic

@redenchilada It's supposed to rhyme? Since when?
-
@omni No, RHYTHM.
-
@redenchilada Derp, I can't read.
-
-
So I have an Android phone and it wants me to do a software update. I've never done one before. What do I do?
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 13:59:34 UTC from web-
@thelastgherkin It's just not as cool as the new version. I don't know what version you run, but ICS is a GREAT improvement over Gingerbread.
-
@omni What makes it cooler?
-
@thelastgherkin A lot. Depending on your device, you will probably not get ALL of these features, but you will at least get most: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/whats-new-in-android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-feature-review/

Morning!

Well, today was less terrible than I expected. I went to the school's sysadmin during the two free hours I had and before I knew, my two free hours were spend discussion everything computers with him. That was a nice moment of my day, at very least not boring.

@minti lol guvmint.

@pony In general, you can do practically everything the average user wants to be able to do through GUIs. That's the whole point of GUIs. The real power-user stuff, like defining the login manager used and manage daemons, is something which you do on the command line. The command line is also, obviously, nice for useful scripts. For my Android, I have written a VERY simple script which can detect all the .apk files in a directory and install them in a matter of seconds. "find --name "*.apk" --exec pm install {} \;" is the script in question, if I could recall correctly. All it does is fine all .apk files, and lets the package manager install is when it finds one. These simple things can save so much time at times, and that's why I like the CLI. Also: https://identi.ca/climagic
-
@omni It's odd for me.. being a computer science minor, yet never being taught this kind of stuff. I mean I'm familiar with command line and programming, but really there's so much to learn.

Dear GNOME3: I like my software to get the clicks I give them. There's nothing wrong with that, right? Or aren't you designing GNOME3 for people who like to click on things?

@omni I honestly don't remember much about what I used. Just that it was some version of Puppy from around late 2010 running from a live CD. And while I personally don't see how having a system with nothing but a web browser can be useful, I'm not gonna argue that it's an inherently bad idea.
-
@zeldatra If you would've read the first word you would've known it was not for you anyway.
-
@redenchilada Ah, Puppy. Yeah, that one is quite advanced and sometimes unstable, so that could explain it. I also think that you can't do much with only a browser, but we're talking about someone who didn't manage to get used to the Window taskbar in the 95 days so we, at very least, have to start as minimal as possible. I hope that's understandable, at least.

this OS arguing is as dumb as the Metric system arguing
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 00:12:40 UTC from web-
@mushi The thing is, it wasn't an OS war, it was a "which system is best for the job at and" discussion. It just got out of hand because some vital information did not get communicated properly (and I'm not choosing a side as to where it went wrong. Communication failures are practically always due to mistakes at both sides)
-
@omni Except for when I'm involved. It is never my fault.
-
@omni oh, dont mind me, i have no actual idea what you guys are talking about since i wouldnt understad it i dont even read more than some words of the dashes

Today, I found an old game on my system called Vore Tournament. I did not know why I expected it to be different from what I got, nor did I expect to get the bit of enjoyment out of it I got. There's something wrong with me.

After not having listened to Merzbow's "Raging Chaos" for a while, I think I heard something new around the 9 minute mark or so: An old telephone ringing. Interesting how that still happens a few months after first buying the release...

@widget That's all nice and dandy, but I don't trust myself with a gun, just like I don't trust myself with a knife.

@kamikaze In an unarmed scenario, I'll avoid the guy until I can locate something to kill him with.
-
@nerthos in other words you'd do the sensible thing and run.
-
@kamikaze Yup. There's no point in risking a wound. That doesn't change the fact that you can survive far more easily than against a guy with a gun, since the knife has a really limited range.
-
-
And thus ends my computer time for this morning. Well, that was short =/

@zeldatra Well, at least that's precise, haven't gotten people to be clearer than "needs to be perfect" in a while. I'll think about it a bit when less tired.
-
@thatonestocking awesome
-
@thatonestocking I love that song.
-
-
That feeling when you want to cry for no real reason
-
@anarchycarcino I know. Today's people don't know anything about being good friends
-
@renovatedkitchen it depends on who you hang out with and how well you fit in, but yeah, it's not easy finding good friends
-
@pony and that's the circle of life. It's the next thing to impossible to find a good friend
-
-
Have you tried turning it off and back on again? http://ur1.ca/c3jry
