  1. Sometimes I do things that seem nice or friendly to me and don't seem like a very bad idea. And then within a week I'm kicking myself for it. Makes me wonder if doing things for others that I wouldn't have done regardless is a bad idea. I'm just. Really doubting my way of thinking about other people right now. Not sure my emotional state is wroth it. And as I've said before, letting others control your emotions is only steps away from letting them control your mind and body. May be best not to leave those links laying around.

  10. @scribus Yepyep. XD Most of the people I know use dude on almost anything and everything humanlike. If they use the term at all. Though I've heard the occasional person who objects to that term, but it's usually an objection to the term dude itself rather than objections to being considered male when they're really female. (That said, I use 'dude' more often on the internet. Very rarely in my speaking lexicon.)

  11. @theowl Being defeatist isn't good for persuasion. (Also, the amalgam is still masculine regardless of where 4chan did it, or fchan did it, or gurochan did it. If we want to refer specifically to /b/ronies though, the argument still falls as /b/ro is still masculine. Majority of the users of 4chan are known to be young adult males. http://www.4chan.org/advertise )

  26. @theowl "They can call themselves pegasisters all they like, don't tell me what I can and can't do." The way you splice these two sentences implies that I'm commanding you to do something. Not sure if that was intentional or not. But I disagree, and acknowledge that I didn't start my initial post efficiently. Bronies as a term to refer to the unexpected demographic of FiM specifically is suiting, but Bronies as FiM or MLP fans in general gets dubious from the implied meaning of the amalgamation of Bro Ponies. I guess even then it ties back against my earlier argument of it being fitting, as it would seem to imply male MLP fans in general, but then it gets even more dicey if we trace it does to 4chan roots I prefer to disregard. But it still doesn't resolve my earlier question of what would be better. Pony fans? FiM fans? But I guess in the end, the comment you're giving me this time isn't a question so much as a personal declaration. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to respond to that.

  27. @macpony55 True. But better to try now than 2 years down the road.

Saturday, 10-Sep-11 16:21:35 UTC from web in context
  28. @macpony55 Coming up with another name for female fans ends up causing a worse issue of *forcing* the divide further by saying that WELL NOW IF YOU USE THE OTHER TERM YOU ARE WRONG. Also, I'm not convinced the entirety is male, so much as what I was getting at before: By having the term tinted for male use, females have less reason to use it. In some sense, yes. Bronies referring to specifically male fans fits well for FiM's unexpected demographic well. But when referring to fans of MLP or FiM at large, using Bronies to refer to that group is a massive undercutting of the intended categorization.

  29. @starshine ...Yeah. :/

Saturday, 10-Sep-11 15:52:13 UTC from web in context
  30. @theowl No clue if it's offending other females, but think of it this way. If every single pony fan ever had to be called fillies, do you think most of the males would be fast to flip it at the tongue? It goes the same way around. Though admittedly, in my case, I pretty much refuse to define fans by their label. Including myself.
