I just lament that us civilians can't really understand the trauma of what you guys go through enough to offer any kind of real assistance. But I'm always here to listen, as are many people here who will talk with you about it.

@clayinthecarpet it's different with people you know intimately, i.e. family members. rule number 1: If they say they don't want to talk about it, don't keep asking them. Seriously. My father was an Officer in the US Navy, but had to do a lot of spy type things during the Gulf War. I KNOW not to ask him about it, because he's made it clear that if he wants to tell me, he will tell me. Just be tactful.

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual I was not that ranged at first; hard to tell range in a dense forest. However once my group made to base and we were getting handed out assignments i rarely did anything smaller than 350m. Until i became on point that is.

@awlditzy most of the contact we get is either indirect mortar fire that you can't do much about or direct small arms fire from a compound down the road. The ironic thing is they do it while we're trying to blow up ordinance to protect their neighbors and make the road useable for civilians.

@northernnarwhal I am lucky to have a few scene/hipster friends who know of the Sunbather album and made me listen to it a while back...It's ...I won't say it's memorable upon first listen, but it's so desirable as a sound. It flows so well and doesn't make you feel awful like some post-black metal does. It just ...does its dreamy thing and serves as a great experience in that way.

@clayinthecarpet Really? I had the intro to Dream House stuck in my head for weeks. I have to admit, the last time a black metal album moved me this much emotionally I was listening to Agalloch's Marrow of the Spirit (which is bloody damn fantastic and you should listen to it if you haven't already). What surprises me the most about Sunbather is how popular it is outside of the metal community. Mind you, I probably would've gotten into them anyway because I like to keep up with newer bands but Sunbather has really been a breakthrough for these guys and it's nice to see them receive lots of good press for it. Definitely excited to hear what they do in the future.
