  1. @nightmarenarwhal The writing isn't particularly notable one way or the other. The voice acting, on the other hand, is like the lowest-quality of Newgrounds sprite animation videos.

  2. @nightmarenarwhal I got really frustrated with the combat mechanics it has, but the platforming itself is great. (Play Classic mode, though; the cutscenes are actually cringe-worthy)

  3. @mrmattimation Either a series of images or a single sheet with everything, depending on the software. Clickteam stuff and GM both have functions to import sprites from either method into the engines, which is what you 100% wanna use as opposed to their default editors. (Both of them have garbo graphics capabilities)

  4. @nightmarenarwhal A lot of good games have been made with Clickteam stuff. The Knytt series (and all of Nifflas' stuff), Freedom Planet, and Lyle in Cube Sector are things that immediately come to mind. (Also as much as I detest it, IWBTG was made in it too)

  5. @nightmarenarwhal The ever-so-popular thing to do is draw scribbly placeholders and see if someone will help you make things look good. (Or make the scribbly placeholders into a visual style) Also I'd recommend anything Clickteam makes over Game Maker. It gets to be a clustergrape for huge projects but it's way easier to get into than GM IMO

  6. @mrmattimation With all of the feature-packed frameworks and WYSIWYG engines out there nowadays, you don't even have to touch a line of code to make a game any more

  7. The title music pulled progression ideas from the GSC credits song and the music for the first few stages was written while Pokemon World was on loop in my head

  8. @nightmarenarwhal I do that basically all the time whenever I'm messing around with music. At least two of the songs in Peckdown had melodies heavily inspired by Pokemon music

  9. @nerthos Oh

  10. @nerthos I think the depressing part is I don't know what part that actually is

Friday, 23-Oct-15 02:32:41 UTC from web in context
  11. @redenchilada Especially since the framework makes it so easy to use pivot tables but the migrations system apparently doesn't have a convenience method to make one without manually writing it all out?

Friday, 23-Oct-15 02:23:44 UTC from web in context
  12. @nerthos The rest of the framework is fine, it's just one part that's really strangely half-assed compared to the rest.

  13. On a work-related note, the migrations system in Laravel baffles me. I get the concept (a rudimentary form of version control for the database schema), but it kind of feels like if you're using a system that needs the command line anyway, why not make a system that you actually use on the database like you'd use Git on the filesystem, instead of some convoluted setup where you use the command line to start an update, manually write in all of the functionality necessary not only to apply the update but also to un-apply the update, and then go back to the command line to actually run it? (Plus I made a minor code error while I was figuring it out which completely cherryed the test database so lmao pls use transactions to catch those errors tyvm)

  15. @nightmarenarwhal If you set it to protected, then nobody outside the WhiteHouse class and descendants can mess with it

  16. I think I choose to be the most triggered by the fact that none of those variables are actually used

Friday, 23-Oct-15 01:52:51 UTC from web
  17. @nerthos I don't know whether to be triggered by the PHP statement outside of a code block, the unclosed <p>, or the fact that you tried to use !important in HTML

  18. It felt kind of weird today at work when a couple of my coworkers were talking about wanting to hire exceptional people instead of "average cowboy coders" who just hack things together because then one of them cited me as an example of a standout and I'm the purebred embodiment of whatever a "cowboy coder" is

  22. I have been stuck for an HOUR just trying to get a damn dependency so I can install some node packages. And here I was beginning to think my Mac hatred was just me being unreasonable

  23. @nightmarenarwhal I can't even GET the damn thing set up because EVERYTHING is spitting out errors

  25. FrankerZ, I can't get the node packages to reinstall properly. I probably oughta ask someone to help with that but instead I'm doing the dumb thing and trying to fix it myself

  26. As soon as I need to ask someone for help with an issue they're away from their desk. :( Guess I'm waiting then.
