  1. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to my extremely old laptop to save things to floppy disks. *sigh*

  2. Well this is fun. When I press down a bunch of keys on this old keyboard, some of them stick and each one clicks back up at different times. It makes the keyboard basically rattle. I'm way too bored.

  3. @rarity it's honestly kinda true...

  6. How hard is it to get a damn floppy drive to work NORMALLY with Ubuntu?

  7. @redenchilada you forgot a p

  9. well dammit. The PS/2 keyboard that I used with my older tower PC has decided to break, and now will constantly output the letter "p" whenever it's used. *sigh*

  10. @l1ghtsword lousy compression in general.

Monday, 28-Jul-14 19:06:55 UTC from web in context
  11. @techdisk A pretty useless comparison, because aside from you, nobody is compressing down to 48kbps

Monday, 28-Jul-14 18:46:56 UTC from web in context Repeat of scoot
  12. @thewaifutyphoon Yeah, i'm just trying to get a music file to fit on a floppy disk. It's more of an experiment than anything else.

  13. Today on Why Lossy Compression Sucks, how .mp3 conversion ruins chiptunes! http://pny.lv/3hzs

Monday, 28-Jul-14 18:44:58 UTC from web in context
  14. @scribus Well it's a chiptune, so that might actually work.

Monday, 28-Jul-14 16:34:49 UTC from web in context
  15. @scoot Yeah, I don't expect the guy to actually keep the actual file as much as keep the disk as the gift. I'll probably just email him a .FLAC file.

  16. @techdisk YES! 1.32 MB! (oh my god it probably sounds horrid)

  17. I am currently trying to compress a 19 MB .wav file down to small enough that I can fit it onto a single floppy disk in order to give it as a kind of gift. As much as it pains me, 48 kbps mp3 here I come!

Monday, 28-Jul-14 16:29:47 UTC from web in context
  18. @scribus This too.

  21. Exact Audio Copy is a beautiful program.

  22. RT @ellie @mushi You clearly would have no issue, since you're some sort of Brazilian Insect Druid. You could probably command them to attack and sting your enemies.

  23. Theres a birch tree in our backyard, and every few years it gets infested with these little red bugs that smell pretty bad when you kill them. It's quite annoying because they fall on you when you walk under the tree.

Monday, 28-Jul-14 15:16:39 UTC from web
  24. @mushi I believe that the quite large wooden play structure in my backyard has been completely taken over by bees. My parents don't believe me, but I see them go in and out of various holes quite often.

  25. @techdisk (i have no idea what the pictured insect would be called here, I mean.)

Monday, 28-Jul-14 15:08:51 UTC from web in context
  26. @mushi I have no idea. All I know is that the wasp that stung me was one of the Yellowjackets that are common in up here in Canada.

Monday, 28-Jul-14 15:08:08 UTC from web in context
  27. @mushi It's really only wasps that I have a problem with. Most other bugs are fine unless they buzz around my ears without me seeing them (because I automatically assume wasp).

Monday, 28-Jul-14 15:05:54 UTC from web in context
  28. @mushi Yeah, but I had a wasp sting me on the ear when I was little, and now that's given me one of those irrational fears of wasps and anything unknown buzzing around me. Maybe one day I will get rid of this fear, but until then... :/

Monday, 28-Jul-14 15:02:06 UTC from web in context
  29. @techdisk And I especially hate wasps. You could say I have a phobia of them.

Monday, 28-Jul-14 14:59:38 UTC from web in context
  30. @mushi Hey, i got nothing against it, it's just that I kinda don't like bugs because they freak me out
