@thismightbeauser Homeowner's associations are all chodes!
-
@scribus What is a chode? Is that like a chav?
-
@thismightbeauser Well, the textbook definitions don't really match up, but common use is a bit more in agreement. Definitely not a nice thing for me to have called a person, but hey - homeowner's associations, right? lol

TIL : Even though Crunchyroll's motto is or was "Anime for Everyone", you will still see people getting banned on social media for asking questions regarding a sensitive topic.
What's a sensitive topic ? Well according to what I have seen, it is 'woman writers' and 'High Guardian Spice'
Digging any deeper as to why will net you in a extreme political environment and even the least negative comment as to why will net you a "Well either Cruncyroll themselves or the PR manager(s) are being self-destructive about this in a weird game of 'cook the grenade'/'hot potato'"
I myself stopped after finding this in a bio of a person involved with HGS :
[> "But what if, hear me out: you hired woman writers" ""I am litterally blocking every person replying to this with "I just want good writers REGARDLESS of gender..." because oh my god shut up shut up shut UP <]

@drinkingpony I'm only aware of this show because I bumped into a woman on the BART who was involved with the show somehow supposedly. Apparently not a writer.
-
@thismightbeauser What is the BART ? Hmm, Probably PT or something, like a yellow train birthed from a bigger yellow factory named HOMER.
I asked around some, and was given these two things as pretty grounded in reality versions of its conception :
Wholesome version http://rainbowdash.net/url/875187 ( about 12 minutes )
sorta depressing version with lots of F-bombs http://rainbowdash.net/url/875188 ( also about 12 minutes )
TL;DR version : seemingly people wanna put their strongarm of politics out there while being a totalitarian of what you can and can not talk about.
Also... I should probably look up whatever SoCal cartoons are now. I get pictures thrown at me that Steven Universe and Gumball, Star and Dipper, and even most of Thundercats Roar have the same "smile skeleton"Jonathan Chouinard likes this.

@thismightbeauser In theory I could claim my money back because I paid with PayPal and order it again. I'd still have to wait a long time but I'd not spend money on top of the loss. It's just a 120€ expensive video converter to convert my NES/SNES/N64/MegaDrive to HDMI.
Jonathan Chouinard likes this. -
@adiwan Almost seems easier to maintain a CRT instead
-
@scribus All I can manage is to have two small 14'' CRT TVs. Everything else is too big and bulky. The composite/s-video to HDMI converter I bought is so far one of the best in that price range that can handle oddball resolutions that these old consoles produce. I have a cheap 15€ piece of crap that created results that were nearly unrecognizable after upscaling (at a lot of places seemingly inverted colors). 240p is almost nowhere supported by any TV manufacturer nowadays. It'll interpreted as 480i and it shows unfavorable interlacing artifacts. Blowing that up bilinearly to full-HD it gets to a blurry mess.

In the last few days I wished that C# had the "friend" keyword. It'd make things so much easier and less error-prone. It makes that a class can access the protected methods and fields of the friended class.

@adiwan I don't fully understand why you'd use Unity to build what you mentioned, but it shouldn't have an impact on whether you can use it unless you are targeting something other than the .NET CLR like WebAssembly or something.
-
@thismightbeauser I use Unity for creating VR trainings at my work. So far I'm not done with my code. I'm restructuring my code constantly and I plan to introduce your proposal towards the end when I have something functional first. I'm also a bit hesitant how it will work with the packages I already use that heavily rely on reflection (Odin Inspector, Bolt). My damn "screw hole" code has about 1000 lines of neatly formatted code and my "cordless screwdriver" is at about 1200 lines. They are so big because I need to ensure nothing breaks when I toggle all of them interactable on or off.

@adiwan Thanks. The context helps. I was thinking that you were controlling real industrial machinery or something. I'm not too familiar with either Odin Inspector or Bolt so idk what will happen there.

Yesterday I helped moving my friends. The whole moving operation hinged on me because I am the only one with enough driving experience to drive a transporter. Also the whole thing was done until midnight. And now I have yet one of those days where I had only 4 hours of sleep.

@adiwan I once drove a 15ft moving truck cross country. Lane changing and stopping was terrifying and I avoided them for the entire trip. The truck broke down in Jbip and I had to postpone my work start date and wait literally over half a day to get a tow.

@thismightbeauser the car I drove was a Mercedes Sprinter. It was fairly OK to drive but in tight curves I occasionally touched the curb with the rear tyre.

@scribus I work in land registration - for the past two years I've just been updating existing registers (registering/removing mortgages, adding/removing proprietors, noting changes of name, updating property addresses, so on), but starting next month I'll be triaging first registrations, meaning I actually get to look at 200 year old leases and title plans and stuff and decide what should/shouldn't go on the register. It sounds more interesting than it actually is but as far as careers go it's somewhat interesting and viable (also we literally hire more people a year than we have work available for lol)

@thismightbeauser ... How about Biodegradeable Plastics ?
Jonathan Chouinard likes this. -
@drinkingpony I don't know enough about them to say, but I would be concerned about them being prone to allowing gunk to grow on food more easily and breaking down on the shelves. That would be a terrifying mess.
-
@thismightbeauser This is unlikely since room-temperature is too low for most if not all biodegradeable plastic to actually biodegrade ( Room temperature is about just short of 300 Kelvin, compared to 325 at which most biodegradeable plastic I know needs to start degrading ).
I guess the biggest caveat is 'is it actually better in the long run ?'. People more read in on this topic than I am are still fighting amongst eachother on that.
My biggest gripe is that biodegradeable plastics will do NOTHING for the ocean-problem, even if all the plastic that is currently in the ocean were to change into some sort of biodegradeable plastic over night ( by means of magical fairy, genie, monkeypaw, time-travel-shenanigans, quantum-flux-destabilisation, or unexplainably )... The oceans are too cold to decompose that mess.
Other problem is that if you were to just throw biodegradeable plastic on a landfill it is actually more toxic for the environment due to methane-emissions.Jonathan Chouinard likes this.

After several encounters with my most recent enemy (electricity-eating fungi) I've decided to study the damn things and figure out how to eradicate them.
They're not actively harmful, but colonies form in low-current circuits, and cause devices to stop working. Phone lines and tv remotes are the two places I most often find them in, and even though I fully clean the devices, after a while the fungi shows up again.Thursday, 18-Jul-19 08:18:40 UTC from web-
@scribus @drinkingpony Sub-zero doesn't kill them, considering they made a colony on the phone line box thing outside despite a week of antartic wind consistently dropping the temperature below 0ºC
Haven't tried suffocation. I've used alcohol and contact cleaner to completely clean them off but they show up again. They're probably airborne as there's no way they could have gotten inside the tv remote by contact. -
@nerthos Here is a stupid idea... Try hairspray.
Nono, not on them, remove them first and then see if hairsprayed components inhitbit their growth.
Also, have you considered that it is not fungus you are dealing with but some form of oxydation ?Jonathan Chouinard likes this. -
@drinkingpony I'm 100% sure it's not oxydation, copper is intact and copper oxyde isn't gooey and transparent
