A cashier’s been celebrating pride every year for the four years I’ve been here. Today she finally asked me what it means. She was extremely upset.

I mean, I’m not blind to how gay people are treated in America, but like… come on.

I feel like “Iran is more progressive than the west because they subsidize transitional surgery” really shouldn’t be a real take that somebody as unless that statement is followed with “because being gay is even worse over there”

today I learned that the receiver and the opening cashier are both insanely homophobic and just the act of me wearing rainbow-colored objects bothers them a lot, which is really funny to me, but also would frighten me a lot if I was openly gay and not very low-key sexually agnostic.

an older cashier audibly grumbled when he saw me wearing pride beads so I’ve been getting progressively gayer over the course of the morning to see if I can provoke a reaction

I’m excited to be getting back to living my life and making up for the year and a half that I’ve been stuck inside or at work, but at the same time, I’m kind of dreading having to go back into DC, transit around here is a joke

Yeah, you know what, now I’m kinda glad the guy I voted for lost. He’s been going all “What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton” on Twitter and I feel like he’s not so subtly advocating for the suspension of elections because the general public doesn’t want the same thing he wants.

what are the odds that the one time I actually support an established establishment politician, that he nearly loses? a witch has cursed me for a racist comment i made when i was 14, I'm sure of it

the curse that is Matt's Primary Vote is real, not only did the two longshot candidates I voted for for Governor and Lieutenant Governor lose by wide, wide margins (both came in last place), the Gubernatorial candidate actually lost re-nomination for his own state house seat, AND the incumbent Attorney General, ALMOST lost the nomination to a newcomer. I think I should be barred from voting in every primary from now on because this track record is almost comically bad and I'm convinced I'm actually placing some kind of hex on these guys.

man it's kind of obnoxious that there are only two bridges into Maryland from Virginia and both of them are an obnoxious drive away from where i live, which is literally on the Maryland-Virginia border, but I guess we gotta keep them out somehow

(and also because he's the incumbent AG whose tenure has seen unprecedented civil rights actions and i think that actions today speak louder than words forty years ago)

my LG vote went to Sean Perryman, who if elected would only be our third black LG, but fear ye not, weirdos who believe leftists are the real racists - my Attorney General vote went to the guy who admitted to wearing blackface in the 80s on the premise that... that was pretty tame for 1980s Virginia, actually.

I have never voted for a winning primary candidate so I pretty much just placed a hex on Lee Carter’s gubernatorial campaign today

Yes, the violent, white, male protagonist is treated sympathetically in the film. He’s treated like a victim. Not THE victim. *A* victim. There are a lot of victims in the movie. Arthur. Bruce. Martha. The guys that Arthur killed in the subway. Opposite Joaquin Phoenix is Robert De Niro, who plays Murray. Murray is, like Arthur, a white male. He’s not violent. In fact, he’s (rightly) disgusted by Arthur’s acts of violence. But he’s the antagonist. He’s POWERFUL. And he plays a role in Arthur’s descent into The Joker, as does Thomas Wayne, the film’s secondary antagonist, who is even more powerful and, arguably, responsible for Gotham’s downfall altogether. It’s a film about how the subjugation of the disadvantaged by the rich and powerful can have grave consequences, and it’s dumbfounding that people, living in Obama-Trump-Biden era America where that’s the status quo, can’t see that.

Yes, “society” is, in fact, the point of that film and The Joker’s character in general. You’re not meant to like him, but you ARE meant to empathize. He’s a bad guy, but something turned him into a bad guy. He wasn’t born like that. It’s incredibly frustrating to see how many people missed the point.

I just learned that the most common interpretation of “Joker” is “whitey’s got it tough” and NOT “our institutions have abandoned the mentally ill and economically disadvantaged to such a degree that tragedy is, unfortunately, around the corner for many of them, and when that tragedy strikes, the incredibly wealthy and powerful pin the blame on the mentally ill and economically disadvantaged as justification to step all over them”. Kind of a bummer.

...and i think the results are pretty good, it definitely flattens things out a lot, and i manage to get the program to generate new outlines on the fly based on an algorithm and where the camera is looking, just wish i could get it to tile along a random spot so that parallel lines don't look so uniform http://rainbowdash.net/url/875929

a few months ago i realized that what the toon shader was REALLY missing was a way to accurately imitate a cheaply inked background that's been painted onto a cel by a Korean child, so i drew this 2160 x 2160 texture that i thought would maybe look like a scratchy black ink line, when tiled and repeated over a great distance... http://rainbowdash.net/url/875928
