  3. First time engraving something in stone (slate). It's the crest of the village of our D&D campaign. The engraving isn't ideal because the piece of slate was not very even. But I would say it is a success. http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/875442

  4. Wanted to use my CNC but to my misfortune it's broken. Those crap DRV8825 stepper motor drivers! One of them decided to completely stop working and heat up like a stove when doing nothing. I'm glad I noticed it soon enough to prevent any damage to the workpiece (just a little scratch) or mainboard. So to summarize: two out of three axis work, one is a fire hazard. I ordered replacement drivers in a 5-pack for effectively 2 bucks per piece. As far as replacements go it is fairly cheap to repair.

  6. @scribus To be honest: The trains stop working and are delayed beyond belief even when there is good weather.

  8. @scribus Indeed. Here in Germany the winds were so strong that trees fell down and the trains weren't operated. Right next door (200m away from my apartment) an old tree fell down on two cars in the parking lot. I haven't had a good sleep this night because of the wind. The rain fell sideways straight into my bedroom window keeping me awake half the night.

  9. @scribus Could be worse if there were strong winds. You can cover the belongings from rain but you cannot save it from strong winds when carrying.

  11. I think I hate the Picard series. I'm glad I don't pay extra because it's included in my Amazon Prime subscription here in Germany.

  12. Watched "Little Witch Academia". It's alright. The overarching plot however is weak and with a lot of wasted potential.

  13. @scribus But but but what if the Girl Scouts are using the cookie selling as a front for drug delivery?!?!

  14. @scribus So they don't put any drugs in there.

  19. @scribus I saw the latest video of "Strange Parts" https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO8DQrSp5yEP937qNqTooOw and saw how he put a mug with water in the microwave and immediately thought that this was wrong.

  23. @scribus High frame rate video is one thing but another thing to interpolate frames of lower frame rate to a higher and smooth out "choppiness", especially with non-contiguous motion like in animation with few feature points in the picture. High frame rate video will be the norm some day. Right now the amount of data is mostly not feasible or the technology is not good enough to simulate. Current films are exported in 2k because all of the rendering time and visual effects. Also visual flaws get more obvious with a higher temporal resolutions. I heard that "acting" is more apparent at higher frame rates, meaning that the acted motions and emotions are perceived as not genuine.

  24. @scribus it's a cancer called motion smoothing that is enabled by default on almost all newer TVs. Animated content, especially 2D, looks like garbage.
