@scribus Narf! A machete could do that faster.

The VR game Trover saves the Universe by Justin Roiland is, just average. The controls are sometimes infuriating. To match parity with PSVR and one-camera Oculus Rift setups it makes me furious to rotate because when I look backwards my view is blocked by a chair and the view is darkened. The combat is as uninspiring as it gets.

@drinkingpony And you are right. Any cheaper and they always come from China. I don't want to cheap out and pay what I saved in import duties.
-
@drinkingpony I bought a SainSmart Genmitsu CNC 3018-PRO https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07G55SNZW for 220€ on a deal. There are cheaper variants of this but they come from smaller companies that are less reputable and I don't trust them much. The reviews are OK but that's to be expected for a barebone device of that size. If I want to do more and bigger things I can still make a bigger one with this and a 3d printer like this one https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:790533

I couldn't resist any longer and I bought a small CNC router.

Today was a very unfocused day at work. I did everything but my self-assigned task. I wrote a lot of helper methods (extension methods). Useful for sure but not that useful for the thing I wanted to realize.

I'm really thinking hard about buying a cheapo CNC router (30cm x 18cm x 4.5cm volume) for 190€

@thismightbeauser I know. ChromeOS lacks the customization and the hardware itself is too expensive for what it's worth. My mother doesn't need to configure it, I need it whenever there is a problem.
-
I'd rather use Ubuntu.

@thismightbeauser I'll never buy a chromebook. They have the worst price-value proposition in my opinion. I'd rather install any Linux distro and get a similar end-user experience.
-
@drinkingpony My mother is so frightful in respect to computers that she rather does nothing than anything when a message window appears. She uses her computer mainly for looking for images, google maps/earth, writing greeting card texts and printing, and SOLITAIRE. So there won't be anything infecting her PC. I don't use any anti virus (none on Linux duh) except for Windows Defender because it comes with Windows and does the least amount of damage.

@drinkingpony As a consumer of the new canon (having all the comics that came after the switch) and having only glimpses of experience with the old canon I'm heavily biased. As far as I have gathered the old canon is guilty of several stupid things like clones of Palpatine and Luke and such that appears to be fan-fictiony as well.
-
I wasted half a day on fixing my mother's PC. More precisely Firefox. It opened every few minutes an error message that its profile couldn't be loaded. However it was all caused by Kaspersky Anti Virus. Deactivating it made it not complain again.
-
@drinkingpony I understand the implications that a strong woman character being played as a joke but I'm OK with that (being a joke not the ridiculing of a woman). If you want a badass Phasma then it can be only found in other media (comics, books, TV).
-
I'm glad that the new MLP episodes got released early.

@drinkingpony They'll probably still die by a hit on their head.

I need to use hot sauce more often. My taste buds are not as tough as they used to be.
-
@scribus There is no real standard for VR interaction libraries. VRTK (that I use) is the most active but it has done some backwards decisions that is biting me in the back. Others are either paid, too stupid simple, or not maintained.
-
Yet again I'm driven to the point I want to throw out the VR interaction library I'm using and do everything myself. There are all the small implementation details that bug me.
-
@scribus Architectual feature or a mistress of butts?
-
@drinkingpony Try to program with that amount of sleep.
-
9 hours of sleep over 3 days. Numb headache. Heavy eyes. Insomnia during the day. Too much to watch. Spiderman Far from Home, Stranger Things Season 3, Amphibia... The day has not enough hours for enough sleep and work and leisure combined.
-
Catching up with all the SGDQ speedruns that I've missed this week.

It's so hot that I sublime.

@drinkingpony The new RPi has two USB3 ports as well as two USB2 ports. Regarding to SATA and spindown: Look up the program hdparm. With it you can configure a spindown-time for each connected drive separately.
-
@drinkingpony my external hard drives spin down after 10 minutes being idle.
-
@drinkingpony don't get me on silly ideas. I didn't consider selling mine until now. I want to use mine as a home server and NAS, especially because of the separate gigabit network.
-
I couldn't resist and bought a Rapsberry Pi 4B with 4GB RAM.
