  1. @scribus I only know licorice being black. Well 99% of the time it's black whenever I see it.

  2. @mrmattimation Never forget Valentine's day. Another day to feel wronged by society. I hate it more because it's culturally more established and has stronger connotations.

  3. @drinkingpony Looks like licorice. More likely salty licorice (German: "Salzlakritz", or named by its shape "Salzhering").

  4. Creating flexible Game UI in Unity is a pain. Either I don't understand it or it is deliberately angering me. It is super finicky to get all the spacing and image sizes right when the window resizes. I wish the layout system were as robust as Qt's.

  5. Great! The local brewery pollutes the air with stinky smells of hops and malt. I just wanted to air my apartment.

  6. @mrmattimation You can wait for the next version of the Octane Renderer that will get DXR support but that's not cheap.

  8. @mrmattimation AFAIK Blender has CUDA and OpenCL support for its cycles renderer.

  9. @oracle I'm currently at a GTX 970 so I was wondering if an upgrade were viable now. I'd like to have a beefy graphics card at home so I can do work at home from time to time. At work we use Quadro P6000. So far neither option is cheap enough for me to actually buy at the moment since the fall of PC hardware prices in general make them hard to justify investing in.

  10. The feeling when you create something with a small flaw that you noticed at he beginning but then thought that it would be straightened down at the end but then it can't be straightened out in the end.

  11. @oracle For that amount (+ a bit more) I'd buy a RTX 2080

  12. @scribus That's because I'm a wizard. A wizard that creates worlds and concepts from nothing but weird incantations put into a seemingly infinite scrolling scroll that is put into a box.

  14. It cooled down to more acceptable 24°C (75°F). I cannot express how glad I am that I won't sweat to death during the night. Seriously, I'm too exhausted to express anything.

  16. @drinkingpony I was shopping today and I wanted to do the same as Al Bundy in a "Married with Children" episode but my shame was too big and I want to shop there in the future https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0642435/mediaviewer/rm1515504128

  20. @drinkingpony My condolences. I'll rather stay at home, shut everything down and not sweat to death or die of a heat stroke. I just used up all my rescue blankets and decorated every window I can with its silvery reflective goodness to keep the heat outside.

  22. Modeled a dust shoe for my CNC so I can directly suck off all the dirt and dust instead of dispersing it into the environment. I have to 3d print it and find appropriate bristles. Also I'm not sure if a pressure fit and cable ties will hold it firmly enough. The existing spindle mount doesn't allow very much in that regard. http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/874955

  23. I had my CNC initiation: I uncontrollably plunged the toolhead into the workpiece. I forgot to reset the coordinates before starting the job.

  24. @drinkingpony Bakelite is a type of plastic. Many products were made of bakelite until modern plastics like ABS were invented. And it will destroy itself because it lacks any endstop switches but I will install some that I have laying around. The pro aspect of it is that it has support for lasers and the spindle is a bit more precise. I will test it when I come back from work.

  27. It is constructed! However it is too late to power it up. My eyes are tired enough. First impression: It's cheap and it shows at every corner. Despite the "Pro" in its name it feels far from it. The front (and back) plate where the rods and screw rod for the table are attached to is made of bakelite. I expected aluminium. On the other hand it seems to be thick and sturdy. The only real bummers are the plastic spindle holder and the plastic holders for the bushings for sliding on the rods and the plastic screw rod nut holder. I'll test it tomorrow or so before my complaints get any validity. I mean I got what I paid for: A cheap CNC for cheap money. Baby's first CNC. http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/874944

  29. The VR game Trover saves the Universe by Justin Roiland is, just average. The controls are sometimes infuriating. To match parity with PSVR and one-camera Oculus Rift setups it makes me furious to rotate because when I look backwards my view is blocked by a chair and the view is darkened. The combat is as uninspiring as it gets.

  30. @drinkingpony And you are right. Any cheaper and they always come from China. I don't want to cheap out and pay what I saved in import duties.
