Probably Stuck Between Dimensions
(Yes, I know this place is back. No, I don't plan on returning; I just don't fit in with the whole "4chan vibe", as I heard it described recently. Anyway, if anyone wants to keep in touch, catch TryshaGray on Twitter. Otherwise, have fun, and keep it pony.)
Not all ponies miss out on all that Princess Luna has put together for her show after she brings out the moon! Me? I do some of my best work and spell-weaving when the stars come out. Besides, I tend to be the sort to keep to myself, a lot of the time. Lately, I've found I'm a lot more of a "Twilight Sparkle" person, though some still say I have a very "Fluttershy" personality, right down to being more likely to talk to your critter companions than you, at first. It takes me a little while, but if I don't get too badly spooked, I'll open up. And if you see me suddenly pop out of a moon portal, or catch my eye hovering in the sky as I try to find someone or something I've lost again . . . sorry about that. I really try not to startle people too much with this stuff. It's just so cool, though!

@ceruleanspark Well, sort of. Apple is much better for making products that non-technical users can use more effectively. Apple service is top-notch, and, through tighter control of hardware and software, as well as leveraging of simplified software and media delivery, their phones, computers, etc. are much more stable, and all in aesthetically pleasing little packages. It's that whole, "It just works," mentality. In that regard, for consumer devices, they are higher quality. But, the notion that their hardware and software is somehow inherently better quality? As a long time Mac user who has had plenty of issues with hardware being just as shoddy as their Windows- and Linux-running counterparts, operating system crashes that have required wipe-and-reinstalls just like Mac fans deride Windows users for having to do, etc. I cry, "Baloney!"
-
@ceruleanspark I'm reminded of that wonderful BBC programme, The IT Crowd. (Long-time fan of British comedy, here.) But, yes, there are a number of industries where that could be useful. Health care, law enforcement ...
-
@renna Oh, managing well enough, for the moment, thank you! :) I hope that your day is going well ... ?
-
@leonkfox M-hm! It's the Apple (or Mercedes, or what have you) Corollary to the Fast-Food Economics theory: If you put out a product where people even think that they are getting a higher quality product than a popular but low-quality mass market version of that product, there will be a usually-small (but not always; see iPhone) but much wealthier group of people willing to pay through the nose for that product. Especially if it's marketed well. (Again, see iPhone.)
-
@renna Hello, there! :)
-
@ceruleanspark Having just had to put together a flow chart to document, with intricate detail, a very simple process for people who can't handle the stress of having to think things through for themselves, I must say, "YES!!!!!"
-
@leonkfox Yes, I just noticed that. And I sure hope that they do somehow decide to reach out to the more discriminating fans. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm in the same boat, so it sure would be nice for them to notice that some of us older fans have a fair amount of pocket change we're willing to toss out there for better stuff.
-
@ceruleanspark That could very well be. I did observe a similar ionization retention pattern leading up to the Sumatra superquake -- another 9.0 -- in 2004, after a series of strong (7.0-ish) quakes in the Ring of Fire about a month prior. Unfortunately, data back then is much less precise.
-
@princessluna *gasp!* Yaaaaay! :) I'll check over there later today to see what you've done. In the meantime, I hope that your day is going well, there!
-
@leonkfox It's nice to be nosing back around again. Thanks! :) As for Hasbro, that's exactly right. I know a lot of folks here do the Target runs to grab what ever MLP toys that they can find, and that's great for them. As for me, the current ones have absolutely no appeal, so I have none, and don't desire any existing product. However, my lost business is exponentially made up for by the profit margin of putting out cheaper, less-detailed toys scarfed up by the masses, so there's no motivation to put out anything better to pull in the business of those of us with higher standards. Completely sucks, but fast-food marketing is capitalism at its "finest".
-
@ceruleanspark Lack of dying is definitely a big plus, near the end of the day! I hope that the rest of your day goes so smoothly. By the way, did you get a chance to look over my babbling about atmospheric ionization?
-
@ceruleanspark Hello, there! Doing pretty well, thank you! Any better, and I wouldn't be about to clock in for work. Hee! How are you today?
-
@princessluna *playfully noms your mane* Good morning! And totally agreed. :)
-
@leonkfox Heh! Completely agreed, on all counts. Hasbro takes way too many "creative liberties". Not sure I'd trust them to come out with plush toys that actually looked like the show characters, if they did come out with any. I wouldn't mind being proven wrong, though. My bank account would, but I wouldn't. ;)
-
@scribus Ouch! Very glad that you got some help, there, especially before things escalated to more drastic means of hurting yourself. And, you're right, it does help when you have someone you know that you can be open with and talk to about these problems. I hope that, with their help, you're able to bring this more fully under control!
-
@dcrabbit Ah! Hello, and welcome. :)
-
@ceruleanspark It's not as nice as one place I used to rent a cabin, and could turn off all the lights, look up and see forever. But it is still nicer than some places I've lived, especially in a few fields near here where there's some blockage to tone down the glow from Portland. Going to try a place in the mountains between here and the coast soon that may be dark, and has a nice bed & breakfast nearby. Looking forward to that. :)
-
@ceruleanspark Yay, those are always a nice surprise! Glad to hear that you're doing well. :) As for me, wearing down for the night, and getting a little sky watching in before bed. It's been a long day, and I'm ready for some nice dreams!
-
@ceruleanspark Good morning, there! I hope that you're doing well today.
-
@fluttershy321 *hug* I hope that you're dreaming sweet. Stay well!
-
@princessluna Oh, no worries! I know you're a busy pony. :) And I'm doing fairly well. It's been an odd day, full of miscommunication and short tempers, and I've found myself in the role of peacemaker more than a few times. Nice that I can be, but, still, just an odd vibe today.
-
@zach121k Hey, that's pretty awesome! :)
-
@princessluna Yay! A belated hello and a good afternoon back to you. :)
-
@nvrrmbr It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got Zach's swing? (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
-
@astra Er, that it WON'T take long. (Boy, do I hope that isn't a prophetic Freudian slip.)
-
@mushi I doubt that it will take long for someone to put it up on YouTube. And it sounds like there are a few sites that will be streaming it as it's aired, too. I don't have Hub, either, so I'll be going pretty much the same route. (And, by the way, cute picture. :) )
-
@leonkfox You were thanking Luna for the beautiful nights. I was agreeing, pointing out how pretty the harvest moon has been. Big full moon. Very beautiful.
-
@sonicdash Yikes! Senior project time! Yes, you're in for a busy year. I hope that it goes smoothly, and that you'll keep nosing in from time to time. :)
-
@leonkfox She's been going all-out with these harvest moons, hasn't she? :)
