  1. @scribus Definitely. I want my money back, even when it's only 13.80€

  8. @drinkingpony I was supposed to receive mine today but the delivery person is an asshole and didn't do their job.

  9. GLS is the worst packet delivery service. I was at home and they didn't bother to ring the bell and they went straight to leave a note in my mail box to pick up the packet in the middle of nowhere at a kiosk.

  10. I see so many repair and product review videos on youtube and I wonder if someone attempted to reconstruct fingerprints from these videos. I mean that the videos are so close to the fingers that you can see almost every detail in 1080p/2160p so it could be feasible to do that.

  11. I'm done. I've read about 6650 pages (average of 350 pages per book) within two weeks.

  12. @drinkingpony RIP USB port

  13. Never ever I'll buy a SanDisk USB stick again. They get so uncomfortably hot that I'm not trusting its reliability over a longer time. I bought a cheaper stick and it barely heats up sitting idle in the USB port. The SanDisk one could be used to boil water, metaphorically speaking. I have two SanDisk sticks and this sample size gives me confidence to make this judgement not to buy anything from SanDisk ever again.

  15. 6 books (or 12 because one book consists of two volumes) to go and I'm done with the Ranma ½ manga and then get it out of my system. No more obsession about "what happens next".

  18. I just read that the 3950x orders excel 16 times the available stock. (German) https://www.computerbase.de/2019-11/ryzen-9-3950x-tr-3970x-3960x-verfuegbarkeit/
Yowsa! That's a lot, even at that high price!

  19. I just wait a little bit longer upgrading my PC. I bet the price will be slashed soon to make it less painful.

  22. I just saw the price of the AMD Ryzen 9 3950x and I'm speechless. Almost 1000€ (with taxes) is too much for me.

  24. @scribus At first I wanted to say that these kind of spines are fine but then I remembered from my childhood how infuriating these are. I once collected Disney comics that are collected in books that are about the size of a manga (about 200 pages and the page size is about the same as a typical manga). It was not easy for me to get all books with a limited budget and in a pre-internet era. So I lived a long time with incomplete pictures staring at me like a Scrooge and Donald with hacked-up faces. Not only that but when I had a complete picture, due to the production inaccuracies, the picture didn't align perfectly (a 2mm offset!), which is infuriating in its own right. F those spines!!!

  25. Usually I put a book series in the shelf from right to left in ascending order. However these double-volume books have the annoying thing that the two volume numbers are side by side. So Right now the shelf looks like this: 7 + 8, 5 + 6, 3 + 4, 2 + 1. I think I'm the only one (member of the left-to-right-reading society) putting books in "reverse" order.

  26. I cannot be helped. I bought a giant Ranma ½ DVD box set. I tried to find a source for the episodes for *free* but I couldn't, only few episodes. The English dub is horrendous, even the German dub is a ton better, however only half the series was dubbed in German. I guess I'll hook up my soft-modded XBox to watch them in Japanese with English subtitles.

  27. I tried reading the "Urusei Yatsura" manga and it was awful. Same author as "Ranma ½". It was pure cringe. No redeeming qualities.

  28. @drinkingpony The first Japanese release had it implemented in hardware. Very quickly it went away by emulating that in software and then altogether. Also the flash card readers were gone faster than anyone noticed that it even existed. When I bought my used PS3 I tried to open the flap to the reader until I realized that the amount of force I put onto the plastic was unreasonable and figured out that it was removed after the first revisions.

  29. @scribus That's what I tried to do with a heap of defunct SNES and PS2 controllers too. IMPOSSIBLE.

Thursday, 21-Nov-19 20:18:35 UTC from web in context
  30. @drinkingpony Instead of 'new' you can use 'hardware update' or 'revision'. Nintendo (and all other gaming console manufacturers) always made updates of their hardware to make it better (lower production costs, increase reliability...). Although the worst revisions were those of the original Wii, first revision had no gamecube support, and then the Wii Mini got rid off all internet features. For instance game controllers have the most revisions and they are all hidden. I've opened a dozen of PS2 controllers and only few pairs of controllers were from the same revision. Even the rather simple SNES controller has at least 3 different variants.
