  1. @zeldatra NES games are region locked. You need your console modded to play PAL games on NTSC consoles or vice-versa.

  2. Finished Yakuza 4. Even though I did a bunch of side stories I completed once again in the 30% range (35%). Is all the content locked behind the cabaret stuff? Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami 2 cabaret mini games were quite fun but all the dating game simping in the other games (dressing up in own cabaret, and talking to girls from other establishments) is quite boring and TEDIOUS.

  3. I am about to finish Yakuza 4. I'm right now where I have access to all characters before the finale and the last opportunity to gear up and to finish sidestories. So far it was way more enjoyable than 3, however one character cannot move as freely through the city as the others because of police. Taking huge detours through the sewers and roofs is hugely annoying. Also that character is the least enjoyable in a fight.

  4. @zeldatra On the bright side: The risk of a plane falling from the sky crashing onto you is then significantly reduced as you are in the plane.

  5. Steam achievements are weird or strangely not working properly. In Yakuza 3 I did over 80 substories but the achievement for 10 wasn't triggered.

  7. @scribus Hmm... Yeah. He also said some misogynist stuff as well. He seems to be an all-round unpleasant guy.

  8. I was reading Dilbert from 2004 to 2009-ish. The content was more recycled than the paper it was printed on. I definitely stopped after Scott Adams did something stupid as well around that time, I don't know what it was anymore. Also he said some anti-vax stuff in regards to Covid-19 and was also favorable to Trump. The recent outburst of racism is barely surprising.

  9. Finished Yakuza 3. Well... It was fine. I eventually adapted to the controls. Plot-wise it's getting better but remained quite rough to the end. This time I only completed about 35 %. I could have more but the cabaret stuff was just awful.
I also started Yakuza 4. It got immediately more enjoyable as it is graphically on par of Kiwami 1 but has badly compressed video sequences like 3 for a bunch of cut-scenes.
I don't mind I'm not playing Kiryu as he has become too big of a persona for all the small side-quests and him forgetting fighting techniques and being out-of-shape got repetitive. Understandable and gameplay-wise mandatory, but still sigh-worthy. 3's upgrade system was also very uninspired and bare. It made me use the weapons more but it didn't made me want to mod and upgrade those weapons as they break too fast for my liking.

  12. My search for a house is not going forward. As I thought I got one my banker told me the house ain't worth the asking price. The banker's estimate is too far off for getting a credit. He was right in hindsight as further investment would be needed to get it anywhere worthwile. It was a house from the 60s and not much has been done there. Also currently all houses on the market are overpriced as the interest rates jumped up and the houses on offer are needing a lot of TLC.

  13. I'm slowly warming up to Yakuza 3. Its presentation and controls are old and stiff in comparison to Kiwami but the Okinawa setting has it laid-back charm. I ended my last game session right before heading to Kamurocho.

  14. I mean I'll play it to the end but it'll be a doozy just from the controls standpoint.

  15. Ooof... Yakuza 3 Remastered looks like it needs another remaster. It controls very weirdly and looks like a PS3 game.

  16. Just finished Yakuza Kiwami 2 and completed about 60% of all completables. The game was also quite good. The plot is equally as convoluted as 0 and 1. The only big gripe I have is towards the end where an optional task required a poker game with a ridiculous amount of winnings in one sitting. Also an open task I have is a game of Mahjong. I tried it but it's to foreign to me to grasp it. I'm thinking about getting the Yakuza Remastered Collection (3-5).

  17. I miss having the Rush and Beast fighting styles in Yakuza Kiwami 2. I used Rush a lot in Kiwami 1. I get that the developers wanted to scale it down to one fighting style in order to create a more consistent game experience. In Kiwami 1 the fights got often unfairly difficult and I had to buy tons of healing items. In Kiwami 2 I had to buy far less of them to the point I have more than I need from all the items I found.

  18. The Yakuza Kiwami 2 gameplay is getting better the more I unlock. The first fights feel very clunky as I got ragdolled around. At chapter 6 onwards there is enough to ragdoll the enemies around. I'm at Chapter 9 right now.

  20. @zeldatra In Yakuza the protagonist is accused of murder but didn't do it. On the other hand in the actual game he breaks spines left and right, shoots people, jams a broken bottle into the abdomen, piledrive a person head first into the concrete floor. It's ok because after the fight they are shown to be alive but bruised.

  21. Finally I played a video game again. I watched a Let's Play of Yakuza 0 and decided to grab Yakuza Kiwami on sale. It was fun. I completed it about 40%. Comparatively it was lacking compared to Yakuza 0 but was still good. I also bought Kiwami 2 but I put it for later as I'm Yakuza'd out.

  22. @scribus Don't worry about that. Any ghost that decides to stay will get permanent spiritual damage by my presence alone. My awkward nerdyness and pony merch will ward them off.

  23. The house will require a lot of work, like new electric wiring, new windows, and a new heating system as it is required here to replace a gas heater every 30 years and it is a few years until retirement. I'll replace it with something 100% electric and a heat pump and install solar panels on the roof.

  24. @scribus About half my income will be just for repaying the debt and the rest is for getting it to a proper shape and comics. I guess I'll starve.
It's not that bad but the next few years will be rough for sure. At least I will be able to sleep and have my peace and quiet.

  26. @scribus In a way I was very lucky that the little piece of Potato Knishes was found in the first place and it didn't got me stranded far away from home. I was lucky that it happened close to home. I have a small set of stairs a few meters in front of my cellar. There I pull my bicycle down so it bounces on the edge of the steps. Just as I opened my cellar door my bike fell on its own (it was on its kickstand) and there I found the flat. Moments before I could cycle and didn't feel anything out of the ordinary, i.e. I had full pressure in the hose (between 4 and 5 bar).

  27. Got my tires yesterday and put them on my bike today. As it turns out, and as obvious it is in hindsight, the culprit for the puncture was a tiny rock. A rock as pointy as a needle and as black as the tire. I could only find it by guesstimating the location by the puncture location on the hose and then pushing really hard into the spot on the tire. The rock has dug into the rubber and I couldn't see it on my first inspection.

  28. @scribus nah. It doesn't appeal that much. I don't know what to do when it's slathered all over the inner side of the tire.

  29. @scribus The same tire was affected. The back one with all the most annoying to service. I don't know if the pucture is in the same spot but at this point I'm fed up and I don't want to spend any time investigating or fixing it. I just ordered a new set of tires and tubes just to get rid of any variables introduced by my current setup. Also the tires are at this point probably 10 years old, so needing to buy new ones are not unsurprising. In my possession they have almost 2000km. The profile looks good and the rubber doesn't crumble but at this age they became harder and thus reducing the grip on the road.
